Chapter 327 Spill the Beans
Zoey had completely lost the smug confidence she showed earlier.
Her lips trembled as she shook her head again and again.
“I … I didn’t, Alfred, you have to believe me…”
Alfred’s gaze grew colder by the second. The pressure rolling off him was suffocating. Zoey finally cracked and confessed everything she had said to Nella.
She didn’t dare look at him once the words were out. Her crying got louder.
“Alfred, I only said those things because I was panicking! That guy she brought with her looked like he wanted to kill me. He almost snapped my wrist! I was scared and furious, that’s why I lashed out. I didn’t mean it.”
She sobbed while trying to explain herself, but Alfred stood up from behind the desk and slowly walked toward her. Then he knelt down in front of her.
“Alfred, I saved your life once, remember? Please … just believe me this time, okay? I swear I won’t ever do it again.”
That was it. She’d played every card she had. She told him Nella hit her. Told him Nella’s fling helped her do it. And Alfred still hadn’t gotten angry at Nella. Zoey knew right then, she was done for.
This was her last chance. If she couldn’t get through this, she’d lose everything.
If Alfred walked away now, she’d stop being the Macks’ golden girl. She’d be out of Apex’s elite circle for good.
She was about to beg when she saw it.
A box cutter.
At some point, Alfred had pulled out a box cutter. The blade was already out. That razor-sharp tip glinted under the light.
“Ah!”
Zoey jumped, startled. Her whole body jerked back.
“Alf … Alfred…”
Was he going to kill her?

But then, he tossed the box cutter in front of her.
“If you’re the one who saved my life, then how about this-give back everything your family took from me over the years. And I’ll give you that life back right now.”
Zoey’s face went pale. She couldn’t stop herself from scooting backward.
Now she understood. Alfred wasn’t bluffing. He was done with her.
Even if she had the guts to kill him, it wouldn’t matter. Everything her family had taken would never be returned.
They’d clawed their way up from cheap suburban trash to a place in Apex’s high society. And
bit of it came from Alfred propping them up for over a decade.

90% of the wealth of the Macks came from Alfred.
And now he was asking her to give it back?
“How about it? Can’t pay it back?”
Alfred laughed. It was the kind of laugh that belonged in hell.
Zoey’s face turned completely white. She collapsed onto the floor. Alfred stood up and looked down at her with ice in his eyes.
“Everything I gave you was already more than enough to repay the so-called life you saved. You just got greedy. You went after something that was never yours.”
Every word out of Alfred’s mouth felt like a death sentence.
Zoey’s whole body shook as she looked up at him. Their eyes met. His were cold. Vicious.
Then came the words that drained the last drop of color from her face.
“Zoey, back in that hellhole where I almost died … was it really you who saved me?”
