The moment Alfred gripped Wesley’s hand, he added pressure with clear intent.
Wesley’s expression shifted slightly, and he responded in kind, tightening his hold as well.
Both men kept polite smiles on their faces, but the tension between their grips spoke for itself.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Sunny’s husband. Alfred.”
Nella went quiet.
Hearing the word “Sunny” come out of Alfred’s mouth made her recoil inside. Her discomfort turned into full-blown disgust.
“So you’re Sunny’s husband who left her behind in Glacieroth for another woman. The one who almost got her killed in that avalanche.”
Wesley smiled as he said it, but his grip never loosened.
He even leaned into the word “husband,” letting the sarcasm drip through it.
The words hit Alfred like a gut punch. His face went pale in an instant.
The smug pride he’d just shown introducing himself vanished completely.
His hand lost strength before he even realized it.
Wesley calmly withdrew his hand, as if he’d just won a silent war. He sat back down without missing a beat.
Meanwhile, Alfred just stood there like a knocked-out fighter, completely stunned and speechless.
Even after the food was served, he didn’t touch a single bite. He just kept looking at Nella, his face full of regret and hesitation.
“Nella.”
After lunch, Caleb made up an excuse and left first.
Nella and Wesley chatted casually as they walked out of the café, only for Alfred to call out behind them.
His tone was heavy and conflicted. Nella turned around. Her face was calm and distant. “Yes?”

Alfred stepped closer. The arrogance he had earlier was gone. He looked nervous now, almost
desperate.
“Can we talk?”
Nella’s confusion deepened. “Talk about what, exactly?”
She wasn’t being cold for the sake of it. She honestly didn’t see the point.
Hadn’t everything already been said?
Alfred’s lips pressed into a line as he looked past her and toward Wesley.
He was her husband. On paper, at least. But the man standing beside her now wasn’t him.
“Do you mind giving us a minute, sir?” Alfred asked.
Wesley raised an eyebrow. Then he smiled slowly.
“You can just call me by my name, Mr. Keywood. I really don’t think I’m important enough for you to call me ‘sir”.”
Alfred’s eyes stayed on him.
“You’re Sunny’s senior. That makes you mine too. She’s my wife. That’s how it works.”
His tone was polite, but the provocation was clear.
Wesley caught it, but he didn’t back off.
He returned the smile with one of his own. “Well, she won’t be for much longer. So why stress over a technicality?”
That word-“won’t”-lit Alfred’s temper like gasoline to a flame.
“Oh? You seem awfully eager for us to be over.”
His voice dropped into something cold and sharp.
Wesley didn’t flinch.
“I just stated a fact, Mr. Keywood. No need to be upset about it.”
Alfred’s eyes sharpened with something far more dangerous. He locked that glare right on Wesley.
