Chapter 333 Field of Landmines
Wesley looked up and gave Alfred a polite smile with a quick nod.
“What are you doing here?” Nella asked, her tone flat as she frowned.
She moved her chair a few inches closer to Wesley’s side.
Alfred noticed it. His chest felt heavy, and his brows twitched slightly.
He acted like he didn’t see it. His voice stayed calm.

“I sent you a message earlier. Wanted to have lunch together. You didn’t reply, so I figured maybe you didn’t check your phone. Thought I’d come find you myself.”
Nella’s frown deepened. The fake concern in his voice made her skin crawl.
She hadn’t seen his message because she’d muted him weeks ago. Did he really not understand why?
She didn’t answer. She kept flipping through the menu.
“You like this, right? I’ll order it for you,” she said to Wesley.
Wesley nodded. “Sure. I’ll eat whatever you pick.”
His voice was low and smooth. Alfred’s face darkened.
He glanced at Nella. Her cold expression completely softened the moment she spoke to Wesley.
The difference was obvious. She barely tolerated Alfred, but she looked so natural with Wesley.
“This one’s great. I used to order it all the time when I was still in school. You should try it,” she said.
Wesley nodded again. “Go ahead. I’m not picky.”
Nella smiled and added, “Good. That makes you easy to feed.”
Alfred’s jaw clenched.
He thought about his own long list of food preferences and felt a sharp sting in his gut.
He stared at Wesley, then forced a smile onto his face.
“Nella, who is this?”

Nella’s eyes turned colder. She hated that interruption.
She looked up, about to answer, but Wesley stepped in.
“Me?”
Their gazes locked. The tension snapped sharp between them.
They both kept smiling, but neither one of them looked away.
“I’m Sunny’s upperclassman from college,” Wesley said as he stood up and extended a hand.
Alfred’s expression shifted the second he heard it.
His eyes narrowed.
“Sunny?”
Wesley blinked and lifted his brows like the question caught him off guard.
“Oh. That’s Nella. You didn’t know her nickname’s Sunny?”
He said it casually, almost like it slipped out, but Alfred’s expression went cold.
Sunny?
Sunny?
How the hell did he not know that? She was his wife.
Why the hell was this guy calling her that?
Who gave
him permission?
Caleb, sitting across from Wesley, glanced up and looked between them. Then he lowered his eyes and stayed quiet.
One of them was his godson. The other was his best student. He wasn’t getting involved.
Nella hated being called Sunny. It always felt awkward to her.
But right now, she didn’t want to correct Wesley, so she said nothing.
Then Alfred let out a low chuckle and reached across the table to shake Wesley’s hand.
