After class, Wesley caught up with Nella and asked.

“My parents have wrapped up their work. We’re going south to visit my grandparents and take a vacation at the same time. I’m going with them.”

“I really envy you.”

Wesley’s voice dropped, a hint of loneliness seeping into his tone.

Nella picked up on it, turned to look at him, and asked,

“What’s wrong?”

Wesley sighed, his gaze drifting away as he said,

“I’ve never met my grandparents on either side, not even my dad. Every time the holidays come around, and families get together, I never know what I’m supposed to do.”

Hearing this, sympathy immediately surfaced on Nella’s face.

“What about your mom?”

“My mom…”

Wesley paused. “She’s living alone in Glacieroth and refuses to come back for the holidays.”

At that, he forced himself back into a relaxed manner and said, “But it’s fine. I’m used to spending the holidays alone. I just go out by myself for a holiday dinner, and eat whatever I feel like. It’s actually not bad.”

As he finished, the corner of his mouth pulled into a bitter smile.

Loss and regret intertwined in his eyes, making the sympathy in Nella’s gaze even more obvious.

“Have you ever been south? If not, why don’t you come with us and take a trip?”

Nella suggested.

Seeing the hesitation on Wesley’s face, he asked her, “Wouldn’t that be an inconvenience for you?”

“Of course not. My grandparents love it when there are more people around. The livelier, the better.”
