As the top executive assistant of Keywood Group, Sergio knew exactly where Alfred had gone today. He was at the courthouse finalizing his divorce with Nella.

There was no doubt his mood would be in the gutter.

The rest of the staff could avoid him, but Sergio couldn’t.

He still had to report on the assignments Alfred gave him earlier.

With that thought, Sergio braced himself and knocked on the door to Alfred’s office.

“Mr. Keywood.”

“Go ahead,” Alfred said as he rubbed his brow, his tone flat and distant.

“We’ve tracked down Mariana Porter’s mother.”

Mariana Porter. The girl Zoey bullied into taking her own life.

The mention of her name made Alfred look up. His eyes narrowed slightly.

“We found one of the neighbors who lived near the place Mariana and her family were renting over a decade ago. That neighbor said not long after Mariana died, her mother was sent to Hilltop Rehab.”

Calling it a rehab center was a joke. It was more like a dumping ground.

Hilltop was a privately owned care home buried deep in the mountains.

The place was cheap, rundown, and miles away from any city.

Most of the patients sent there were elderly or terminally ill people whose families had already given up on them.

Back then, when they started investigating Mariana’s death, they suspected it might have something to do with the accident where Alfred had been saved. So they’d been trying to track down anyone involved.

And finally, one of the neighbors who had moved out gave them a few missing pieces.

“Mariana’s dad passed away twelve years ago. At the time, her mom was bedridden with a serious illness. But the strange part was, a month before her dad died, their family suddenly received a two-million-dollar aid fund. Her mom’s treatment was fully paid with that money.

“Right after that, Mariana transferred into Highland Crest Academy, a prestigious private school, on a full scholarship. After nearly two years of nonstop bullying from Zoey and her group, she jumped off a building.

“Meanwhile, her mother, still recovering at home, was taken away under the guise of treatment and ended up in that so-called rehab center. After that, she just disappeared from the radar.

“We used the old data to track down their neighbors from ten years ago. That finally led us to Mariana’s mother.”

At that point, Sergio’s face grew grim.

He handed Alfred a flash drive.

“There’s a recording on here. Mr. Keywood, the person who pulled you and Mrs. Keywood out of that wreck was Mariana’s father, Leonard Porter.

“Leonard had late-stage cancer. He’d been working construction near the accident site. He just happened to be there when it happened. He risked his life to get you both out.

“While he was waiting for the ambulance, a man approached him and handed him a two- million-dollar check. The condition? He had to stay quiet about saving you.

“Mariana’s mom also needed urgent surgery. That money was their only lifeline. So they took the deal and kept their mouths shut. The treatment worked, and their daughter ended up at Highland Crest thanks to some assistance from that same man’s family.”

Alfred had heard enough. Everything finally clicked.

“So Norris used two million to buy off Leonard’s silence. Then, afraid the mother and daughter would spill the truth, Zoey bullied Mariana until she killed herself. And the Macks had Mariana’s mother locked away in some remote care home?”

His voice dropped, ice-cold.

“That’s what it looks like.”
