Chapter 369 Alfred Was Here
Wesley smiled. “Then don’t treat me as a guest.”
Clifford paused, noticing the subtext in his words.
He lifted his head and looked at Wesley meaningfully.
“Alright, then I won’t hold back.”
“Of course. There’s no need for such formalities with me.”

When Nella came out of her room, the first thing she saw was Sunny perched on Marshal’s back, biting its tail playfully.
“Sunny?”
She stepped forward, about to ask how the cat got there when her mother, Felicia, spoke, “Your dad and I invited Wesley for lunch today. Honestly, you slept in so long that Wesley had to wait outside.”
“Huh?”
Nella was still groggy.
Yesterday, a student called to discuss a new research project.
The conversation was so engaging that Nella didn’t interrupt, even though it went late into the night.
By the time it ended, it was nearly 3 a.m.
The student’s question involved neurosurgery, an area cutside her expertise, so she had messaged Wesley
about it.
She had expected a response the next day, but Wesley replied immediately.
They spoke at length on the phone about the question.
Wesley shared a lot of knowledge, and Nella listened carefully, genuinely interested.
Eventually, exhaustion overtook her, and she fell asleep mid-conversation, not even realizing when the call
ended.
She had completely forgotten her parents had mention inviting Wesley for lunch.
Feeling a little guilty for keeping him waiting, she notice that he was already helping in the kitchen.
As she moved to join him, the doorbell rang.
Nella went to the door and froze when she saw who it was.
“Mr. Keywood.”
Her tone carried a hint of surprise, and the unfamiliar le slipped out without thinking.
Alfred’s expression barely shifted.

“You should probably find a different way to refer to them now.”
Alfred shrugged lightly.
“We haven’t finalized the divorce, so they’re still my in-laws.”
Nella didn’t know why Alfred was still clinging to this.
She didn’t bother arguing with him-after all, it was only a matter of a few days.
“Nella, who’s there?”
Felicia called from the living room.
Nella hesitated, then let Alfred in.
“It’s me.”
Alfred entered carrying a large bundle of expensive gifts.
Felicia had long disliked him after nearly letting Nella die alone in Glacieroth, but after hearing about Nella’s long-standing feelings and the contract she rashly signed, she had come to understand.
Love couldn’t be forced.
Since her daughter stubbornly insisted on running headfirst into the wall, well … let her get it out of her system. Once it was over, things would settle.
