Chapter 374 Let’s Talk
“It’s almost the end of the year. I came to check in on you.”
Alfred was always polite and thoughtful.
Every holiday, he made a point of going with Nella to visit her parents.

Even though the gifts he brought were always prepared in advance by his assistant, Nella was still happy and even looked forward to those days.
Because only on those days did she and Alfred feel more like a married couple.
But now, as Alfred visited her parents just like in previous years, Nella felt an absurd sense that everything had changed.
Now that the anticipation of the holidays had faded, Alfred’s gesture felt completely ordinary.
“You’re being too polite. There’s no need to keep doing this in the future.”
Felicia spoke gently, but in truth, she was reminding Alfed that the marital tie between their families was about to end, and there was no need to continue such holiday courtesies.
Alfred moved his lips, but in the end said nothing, only responding quietly, “Okay.”
After that, he stood up from the couch. “Clifford, Felicia I should get going. Sorry for bothering you today.”
He then looked at Nella. “Nella, I need to talk to you about something important. Can you come downstairs. and walk with me for a bit?”
Afraid that Nella might think he would cling to her and refuse him, he quickly added, “Don’t worry. It has nothing to do with our divorce.”
“Alright. Let’s talk downstairs.”
They went out, took the elevator down, and walked out of the apartment building together.
“What’s on your mind?” Nella asked.
Alfred stopped and studied her for a moment. Then he asked, “How well do you know Wesley?”
Nella was a little surprised but said, “I know him a bit.”
She assumed Alfred was asking as a cousin trying to understand him. After answering, she added, “If you really want to know about him, just ask him directly. He not unreasonable. You’re family, after all. If you talk it out, maybe any misunderstandings between him and your family can be cleared up.”
Alfred listened in silence as Nella finished speaking.
Seeing the admiration in her eyes and the obvious bias her tone when she mentioned Wesley, bitterness rose in his heart.
His hand at his side slowly curled into a fist. His jaw tightened, and his thin lips pressed together hard.
Nella waited for a while, but Alfred still didn’t speak. Seeing his expression grow darker, she thought he was annoyed that she had meddled too much.

So she said. “Of course, that’s just a suggestion. You don’t have to take it. To be honest, I’ve only known Wesley for about two months, and we haven’t spent that much time together. If you’re hoping to learn about him from me, I might disappoint you.”
“It’s not that,”
Alfred denied in a hoarse voice. “That’s not what I mean!
He stared at Nella without blinking. Finally, he said, “Nella, watch yourself around Wesley. He’s not someone you can trust.”
As soon as those words left his mouth, Nella’s expression immediately darkened with displeasure.
Her gaze toward Wesley turned cold. “Are you speaking badly about Wesley?”
Seeing her clear annoyance, Alfred immediately panicked. “Nella, trust me-there has to be a reason Wesley keeps showing up around you. I’m worried he might hurt you.”
