Her lips trembled as she tried to ask, yet couldn’t bring herself to.

Alfred’s brows furrowed, his gaze full of heartache.

He reached out and gently wiped the tears from the corner of Nella’s eyes, his voice soft.

“Your mom is fine. She just has a mild concussion. As for your dad…”

Alfred pressed his lips together, trying to figure out how to phrase it, when suddenly the hand resting by the bed was gripped tightly.

He looked down to see Nella’s bandaged hand clutching his with all her strength, her lips quivering as she forced out the words.

“Don’t hide it from me.”

Alfred crouched down beside her and gently patted the back of her hand.

“Your dad’s condition is a bit more serious. He’s still being monitored in the ICU. Just focus on recovering. I’ll handle everything.”

Her entire family was injured now, and Nella realized that the only person she could turn to without hesitation was Alfred, her soon-to-be ex-husband.

She licked her dry lips and looked at Alfred. “I’m sorry for the trouble.”

“It’s no trouble. As long as we’re still legally married, I have a responsibility to take care of you.”

He gently held Nella’s hand, careful not to squeeze too hard for fear of hurting her.

“I didn’t do my duty as a husband for those three years. Let me make up for it now. Don’t feel like you owe me anything.”

Nella nodded weakly and was about to close her eyes to rest when she suddenly remembered Wesley, who had been in the car with them, and her eyes flew open.

“What about Wesley? Is he badly hurt?”

Alfred’s brow furrowed. “He’s fine. Just some minor scrapes and bruises.”

Hearing that Wesley was okay, Nella let out a breath of lief.

She had been the one to invite him on the trip to Cloria If anything had happened to him, she wouldn’t have known how to face his mother all the way in Glacieroth.

“Nella, don’t think about anything else right now. Just focus on healing. Leave everything else to me.”

“What’s the situation with Norris?”

“He’s still under observation in the ICU. His condition is worse than Professor Milo’s. The doctors say he might not wake up.”

A chilling darkness washed over Alfred’s face.

Horizon Industries had filed for bankruptcy reorganization yesterday.

The day Alfred turned Norris away, Norris knew he had no way out and vanished without a trace.

For the past two days, the police had been searching for Norris’s whereabouts. No one expected him to be lying in wait on the road to the airport that morning, ready to ram his car into them with no regard for his own life.

Seeing the terrifying expression on Alfred’s face, Sergio steeled himself and continued, “Traffic camera footage showed Norris had been parked on that road since last night, waiting for Professor Milo’s car to pass.
