Alfred pinched the bridge of his nose, the cold fury in s eyes growing dark by the second.
“Norris is a wanted man. How could he possibly know the exact details of Nella’s trip to the airport today? Keep digging. Find out who’s been in contact with him over the past two days.”
“Got it.”
Sergio was about to leave when Alfred called him back.
“What about Wesley?”
“After he left the hospital, he went straight back to his neighborhood.”
Sergio answered honestly, then asked, “Mr. Keywood, do you suspect him?”
Alfred didn’t answer directly. He simply said, “Keep a close eye on him.”
“Got it.”
After Sergio left, Alfred returned to the hospital room.
Nella was still unconscious, and his brow remained tightly furrowed.
If this was about revenge, why didn’t Norris come after im directly? Why go after Nella instead?
Norris wasn’t stupid. If he was prepared to go down in a blaze of glory, wouldn’t it make more sense to kill him? What satisfaction could he possibly get from hurting Nella?
Alfred refused to believe that this car accident was simply about Norris seeking revenge.
Meanwhile, on the other side.
After getting his wound bandaged, Wesley didn’t even bother to check on Nella before heading straight back to his place near the university.
He pulled out a backup phone and dialed a familiar number.
“The car accident with the Milos. Did you order that?”
Wesley’s icy voice dripped with murderous intent.
The person on the other end of the line was silent for a moment before responding in a worried tone, “You were in a car accident?”
Wesley could see right through that fake concern.
He closed his eyes, struggling to contain the rage boiling inside him, and forced the words through clenched teeth, “Didn’t I tell you not to touch her?”
The man on the phone fell silent for two seconds, then sighed.
“Wesley, don’t blame me. Time was running out. I just wanted to give you a little reminder, that’s all.”

The man’s tone was gentle, his voice carrying the refined elegance of someone who had aged gracefully. But every word that came out of his mouth was ruthless to the core.
The killing intent in Wesley’s eyes surged violently.
Blood was already seeping through his freshly bandaged wound.
“Wesley, you can’t put all the blame on me this time. The accident wasn’t supposed to be this serious. Who knew Norris would turn out to be such an idiot and couldn’t even handle something this simple? I do feel bad for your little girlfriend, though.”
The man spoke in the gentlest of tones, his choice of words dripping with the benevolence of a caring elder.
But to Wesley, it was nothing but chilling.
“A pawn that useless can only be played once. Don’t you agree?”
The man’s voice was almost casual now.
“Wesley, you’re my only son. Everything I’ve built will be yours someday. But you’ve got to put in the effort too, don’t you think? That shipping route the Keywoods control-you need to get your hands on it as soon as possible.
“Wesley, the Keywoods killed your real father and left you and your mother to fend for yourselves all these years. You’ve suffered so much. They owe your family a debt they can never repay. You’re just taking back a small piece of what’s rightfully yours.”
Wesley said nothing. His face was dark as he hung up without a word.
He understood exactly what the man meant.
If this time was a “reminder,” the next time would be a warning.
His hand rested lightly on the bleeding wound. He then pressed down really hard.
