As soon as she finished speaking, Zoey’s eyes reddened, and tears came instantly.

“You saw it yourself today. Nella admitted it. She hasn’t been sleeping well lately. It’s so bad that she had to see a therapist. If she’s already in that condition, rushing to save a patient late at night and doing such a high risk surgery, can she really guarantee nothing will go wrong?”

Alfred fell silent.

His gaze stayed on Nella’s busy figure in the operating room, his brow slowly tightening.

Was her sleep problem really that serious?

He recalled Nella’s pale face when he ran into her at the counseling center earlier that day. She did look tired.

She had been carrying a large bag of medication. If it were just insomnia, did it really need therapy and so many prescriptions?

His thoughts drifted back to that nightmare she once had.

In the dream, she had cried out for him to save her. She had sounded desperate, heartbroken, helpless.

After she woke up from that dream, her attitude toward him clearly changed.

She became distant and cold. She even used the excuse of poor sleep to move into a separate

bedroom.

So had her recent distance really been caused by that nightmare alone?

Or was Nella hiding something else from him?

The thought made Alfred’s frown deepen.

His expression grew darker.

Zoey noticed his reaction and felt a quiet sense of satisfaction.

She glanced toward the operating room with a hint of triumph, then turned back to Alfred.

“Alfred, it’s not that I don’t trust Nella. I’m just truly worried that her current state isn’t suitable for such a difficult operation.”

She then looked at Logan, who stood nearby with an unreadable expression.

“Dr. Pierce, how long will this surgery take?”

“Well… for an aortic dissection, depending on the situation, it usually takes four to eight hours. It depends on the patient’s condition and the surgeon’s skill.”

Logan’s answer was exactly what Zoey wanted.

She looked at Alfred anxiously.

“Alfred, you heard that. At least four hours, and it’s already late at night. If Nella can’t keep her focus, my brother’s life could be ruined in her hands.”

She clutched Alfred’s arm and cried. “Alfred, can we change doctors?”

She glanced at Logan again.

“Isn’t Dr. Pierce the department head of cardiac surgery? His skills must be better than Nella’s. Let him replace her, please.”

Logan looked troubled and glanced at Alfred.

“That… that wouldn’t be appropriate. I’m not the primary physician on this case. And with an aortic rupture, the surgery must be handled with extreme care. Changing the lead surgeon halfway through is a major taboo.”

He felt the young woman was being unreasonable simply because Alfred was present.

Her words also showed clear distrust and unfair insult toward the hospital’s doctors.

Logan was unhappy, but because of Alfred, he explained patiently.

“Miss, please rest assured. Since Dr. Milo accepted this surgery, she has the confidence and judgment to complete it.”

“No. Alfred…”

“Enough.”

Alfred cut Zoey off impatiently. His eyes were still fixed on the operating room, and his voice now carried clear irritation.
