Tonight, Nella was already on night duty, and on top of that, she had to handle such a major surgery. Holding on by sheer willpower until the operation ended, she felt as if all the strength had been drained from her body.
After barely making it back to her office, she collapsed into the chair, too tired to even keep her
eyes open.
Her head rested against the back of the chair. The moment she closed her eyes, she fell asleep.
When Alfred arrived, he saw that the door to Nella’s office was slightly open.
He raised his hand and knocked gently, but there was no response from inside.
After hesitating for two seconds, he quietly pushed the door open.
The sight that greeted him was Nella with her eyes tightly shut, leaning loosely against the chair.
Her head rested on the thin chair back, tilted slightly to one side. She was clearly sleeping in an uncomfortable position.
He walked closer. Even in sleep, her face was marked by exhaustion, her brows tightly furrowed, her rest uneasy.
Her lips moved as if she were murmuring something he could not hear clearly.
He lowered his gaze and bent closer to her lips.
“Save me save me…

“Alfred, save me. I’m so scared…
“Alfred, why didn’t you save me? I’m your wife. How could you be so cruel…”
Alfred froze completely, his eyes snapping back to the sleeping woman.
Her brows knit even tighter. Behind her tightly closed eyes, tears gathered, and her choking, desperate questions struck straight at his chest, making it ache.
“Nella… Nella…”
He bent down and softly called her name a few times.
Nella did not respond. The tears trapped beneath her thick lashes finally rolled down, landing

They were hot, burning his skin and stinging his heart.

He did not know what nightmare she was having, or why she always called out for him to save her in her dreams.
Was this the same nightmare as that night?
Why did she keep having the same dream, and why did it leave her so desperate?
He heard it clearly now. When she called his name, there was deep hatred mixed into her voice.
At that thought, Alfred’s chest jolted. The familiar panic and unease of the past few days surged back at once.
He pressed his lips together, his jaw tightening.
Even though the office was warm, Alfred felt a chill spread through his heart.
He did not wake Nella. Instead, he bent down, intending to carry her to the folding bed in the room so she could rest properly.
As he leaned closer, his gaze caught the medication boxes on her desk that had not yet been put
away.
He was just about to reach for them when Nella’s startled voice rang out.
“Alfred?”
The confusion in her eyes vanished instantly. Nella sat upright, her gaze landing on Alfred’s hand reaching toward her desk, her heart tightening.
She sprang to her feet, stepping between Alfred and the desk, subtly blocking his view.
“Are you here to ask about Patrick’s condition?”
Nella asked, trying to shift Alfred’s attention.
Alfred did not answer right away. He stared at her face in silence for a long moment, then shook his head.
“I saw how long your surgery was. You looked exhausted, so I wanted to check on you.”
Nella froze for a second. Then she nodded in understanding and said.
“I’m fine. I’ll be okay after some rest.”
