No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 53

Chapter 53 Perfectly Reasonable

It was worth a fortune.

The starting bid alone had been in the eight figures.

And now, that priceless gemstone sat in front of Nella, placed there by Alfred himself.

To be fair, Alfred had always been generous with her in this regard. He had never once been stingy when it came to money.

Nella pushed the ring box back toward him.

“This is too expensive. You should take it back.”

Alfred frowned. Having a gift rejected so directly clearly put him in a bad mood.

When he looked at Nella again, his gaze had turned noticeably colder.

“You’re my wife. No matter how expensive it is, giving it to you is only natural. Isn’t that right?”

Nella heard the irritation in his tone.

What he said was true.

But the problem was, her role as his wife existed in name only.

She didn’t have the confidence to accept something this valuable.

Stubbornly, she refused to take it.

Just as she was about to pull her hand back, Alfred suddenly caught her wrist, his gaze dropping to the ring finger of her left hand.

“Where’s your wedding ring?”

Nella froze and followed his gaze to the finger that was now completely bare.

On the night she returned from Glacieroth, she had taken off her wedding ring while washing

She found an excuse and replied, “Surgeons aren’t allowed to wear jewelry. I took it off.”

Alfred knew that.

But he also knew that every time Nella removed her wedding ring, she always kept it carefully

and put it back on whenever she wasn’t in surgery.

She had never once forgotten it.

Yet now, her ring finger was empty.

And she had brushed him off with the most reasonable excuse possible.

A sharp pain tore through Alfred’s chest.

As if he couldn’t accept her attitude toward the wedding ring, his brows darkened and he said coldly, “You’re not in surgery right now.”

Nella frowned, irritation flashing across her face at his sudden fixation on such a small thing.

“Taking it on and off is a hassle. It’s easy to lose. I put it in my bedroom drawer.”

Alfred’s chest tightened, and he fell silent.

The chill in his eyes looked ready to spill over as he stared at Nella’s indifferent expression. His voice came out hoarse.

“You never thought it was a hassle before.”

Nella couldn’t understand why Alfred was making such a big deal out of something so trivial, and the irritation inside her surged again.

“That was before. Now I do. Is that not allowed?”

The impatience in her tone left Alfred openly stunned, a flash of confusion crossing his face.

Nella knew exactly what had shocked him.

After all, the Nella from before would never have spoken to him like this.

She had always been gentle and composed in front of him, her voice soft and pleasant.

Especially when she spoke to him, she always smiled, her eyes curved warmly.

She had never shown this kind of obvious impatience after just a few sentences.

Perhaps because no one had ever bruised his pride like this before, Alfred’s expression turned ugly.

His jaw tightened, clearly holding something back.

His cool, thin lips pressed into a straight line, making him seem even more unapproachable.

Just when Nella thought Alfred would lose his temper and walk out, he forced himself to

endure it.

“If it’s inconvenient for you to wear it, then don’t,” he said at last.

His tone softened.
