No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 58

Chapter 58 Don’t Be Ridiculous

Finished

The more Nella thought about it, the angrier she got, until in the end, Alfred actually made her laugh out of sheer frustration.

“Mr. Keywood, don’t be ridiculous.”

At some point, rain had begun to fall from the heavy, dark sky.

The Cullinan’s wipers whipped back and forth at full speed.

That single line from Nella-“Mr. Keywood, don’t be ridiculous”-completely threw Alfred off.

He caught the sarcasm in her words.

He also knew he had no right to interrogate Nella like this.

He was the one who insisted on going to Zoey, and there was nothing Nella could do to stop him.

If she had tried, he would’ve only blamed her for it.

He understood that deep down, and yet, he still questioned her aggressively.

It seemed like this was the only way he could quiet the fear inside him-the fear of losing something important.

“I…”

Alfred opened his mouth, his voice hoarse and a little lost-

“I actually wanted you to come with me.”

He could already imagine the look Nella would give him after hearing that.

A low, dry laugh came from Nella’s side. “No, thanks.”

If Zoey saw her show up with Alfred, her depression would only get worse.

Nella couldn’t take that responsibility.

“Nel-”

“If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”

Before he could finish, Nella had already ended the call.

Listening to the busy tone on the other end, Alfred felt an emptiness open up inside him.

The confusion in his heart only deepened.

The icy rain outside seemed to seep through the glass.

It poured right into the hole in his chest, filling that aching, empty place.

It was cold. And it hurt.

After the call ended, Nella looked out at the rain-blurred streets and neon lights, still rattled by Alfred’s words.

Generous?

Does he really think I’m doing this voluntarily?

No one in the world wants to watch the person they’ve loved in secret for ten years keep choosing someone else over them, time and time again.

I keep being the one left behind.

It’s become something I’m afraid of.

And yet, I always end up forgiving him and making excuses for him.

Because I know-ever since I signed that marriage contract with Alfred, I lost the right to be upset about any of this.

That’s just the price for caring too much.

When I signed that contract, I gambled everything on ten years of loving him.

Now that I’ve lost, I have to accept the consequences.

She scrubbed a hand over her face and watched the rain trailing down the window, murmuring softly, “Alfred, not everyone gets to feel jealous.”

The rain kept coming down, wind driving the water against the window in wild streaks.

“Can you take me to Blessed Paw Clinic?”

By the time Nella got to the pet clinic, the vet had just finished giving the puppy an injection.

He was lying in the kennel, looking weak and pitiful, his eyes barely open.

The treatment is working well. Marshal should be able to go home in a few days.”

Marshal was the name Nella had given to the little puppy.

Hearing the doctor say that, Nella felt a little relief.

She stood by the kennel, gently stroking the puppy’s head and speaking to it softly.

“Marshal, you have to be good and let the doctor treat you, okay? Once you’re better, I’ll take you home.”
