Nella’s voice rose a notch. “Are you listening?”

Alfred let out a helpless sigh. He lifted a hand and pressed his fingers to his brow. Seeing Nella looking at Zoey, he said, “Did you remember the instructions the doctor just gave?”

Zoey snapped out of it and looked at Nella. The resentment in her eyes deepened.

“I remember,” she answered reluctantly.

Nella didn’t say anything else. She only told Patrick, “Get some good rest,” then left the room.

Alfred instinctively moved to follow her, but Zoey quickly reached out and grabbed him. “Alfred.”

“What is it?”

Alfred stopped.

Zoey pressed her lips together, hesitating.

“If you’ve got something to say, just say it,” Alfred said, holding back his impatience.

Zoey caught the impatience in his tone, and her heart sank.

Her resentment toward Nella flared up again.

What tricks did that woman use to make Alfred care about her?

“I want to transfer Patrick to Everwell. The service and privacy are better there, and Patrick would recover faster.”

The Everwell Zoey mentioned was Everwell Advanced Medical Center under Keywood Medical.

Unlike public hospitals, Everwell’s private facilities offered higher-level service, privacy, and security.

Especially the doctors hired by Keywood Medical. They were top-tier specialists from home and abroad, leaders in their fields.

The patients they served were all from wealthy, powerful families. Besides medical skill, private hospitals emphasized service.

It wasn’t unreasonable for Zoey to want to move Patrick to Everwell, but the moment Alfred

“What’s wrong with this place? Patrick just pulled through. It’s not a good time to move him around. The doctors at Apex Medical are no worse than Everwell’s. You don’t need to worry.”

Even though Alfred was speaking for Patrick’s sake, and his tone was meant to reassure her, to Zoey, it sounded more like he was finding an excuse for himself to keep coming here.

And once that thought took root, it spread wildly through her mind like a diseased vine.

“But Apex Medical is still a public hospital. It’s not as quiet as Everwell. People are coming and going all the time. I’m afraid it’ll affect Patrick’s recovery.”

Zoey refused to give up.

I don’t want Alfred coming to the hospital to see Nella anymore. That woman is far too manipulative.

But Alfred seemed set on it. The man who used to give in to her every request refused her again.

“This is a high-floor VIP ward. Patrick has the room to himself. No one will disturb him.”

Zoey still wouldn’t let it go. “But-”

“Zoey!”

This time, it was Patrick who cut her off.

He looked at his innocent, naïve sister with some helplessness. How could she not see that Alfred is already getting impatient?

If it weren’t for her, he would’ve lashed out a long time ago.

How could she still be this clueless?

“Apex Medical is fine. Nella is my attending physician. Resting here is better for me. If anything happens, Nella can take care of it right away.”

After saying all that, Patrick looked exhausted.

“Don’t trouble Alfred anymore. He’s got a lot on his plate.”

Zoey saw the cool detachment in Alfred’s eyes. Even though she was unwilling, she swallowed it

down.
