Chapter 69 Post-Op Care Is Important
Patrick had already woken up, though he still looked weak.
“Alfred.”
Patrick greeted Alfred, then turned to Nella, softly calling, “Nella.”
Finished
Nella paused, her gaze lingering on the patient chart, but she didn’t answer to his greeting. Instead, she asked, “How are you feeling?”
“Not bad. Just a little tired.”
Nella nodded. “You just came out of intensive care. It’s normal to feel weak. You’ll need to recover slowly.”
She spoke as she quickly jotted notes in the chart.
“Are you having any chest tightness or shortness of breath?”
Patrick shook his head. “The incision stings a bit.”
Nella nodded. “Is the pain bad?”
“It’s all right. I can handle it.”
“Good.”
She set the chart down. “Can a family member help unbutton the patient’s shirt? I need to check the incision.”
Right then, only Zoey and Alfred were in the room.
As soon as Nella said “family member,” Alfred felt a reflexive jolt at the word.
He stayed leaning against the door, not moving an inch.
But Zoey instinctively looked at Alfred, as if waiting for him to help Patrick with his clothes.
So neither of them moved.
Seeing both of them frozen, Nella frowned and reached out herself to unbutton Patrick’s shirt.
Patrick looked a bit embarrassed. “I can do it myself.”
Nella lifted her gaze and glanced at him. “You just woke up. Don’t move around.”

Am
**Finished
She started unbuttoning Patrick’s shirt as she spoke.
But in the next second, a hand stopped her.
She glanced sideways to see Alfred had stepped up to the bed. His face was hard to read, but he had already unbuttoned Patrick’s shirt.
“Thank you, Alfred.”
Patrick murmured his thanks, but when he saw Alfred’s dark face, he didn’t dare meet his eyes.
Nella didn’t notice Alfred’s mood. She picked up the stethoscope and checked Patrick carefully.
A moment later, she put the stethoscope down. “A little redness and swelling around the incision is normal. It will fade in time-no need to worry.”
She picked up the nurse’s records from that morning and glanced through them before continuing,
“Blood pressure is normal, heart rate’s normal too. If things stay stable, you can try sitting up for a while tomorrow.”
After she finished, she finally looked at Alfred and Zoey.
“The patient is still in a crucial stage of recovery. Post-op care is very important, so the family needs to pay extra attention.”
That last part was directed at Zoey.
But right now, just hearing “family” irritated Alfred, and he kept thinking of Nella’s cold attitude.
He was distracted, so he had no response to Nella’s instructions.
Zoey, meanwhile, was focused entirely on Alfred.
She barely paid attention to Nella’s instructions.
Whenever she caught Alfred’s eyes drifting to Nella, her face darkened with jealousy.
Nella’s voice grated on her like a bug in the gutter-disgusting and unbearable.
She had no patience to listen to a word Nella said.
Seeing both of them remain silent again, Nella’s expression turned cold.
