Chapter 72 Losing Control

Alfred had specifically checked. Nella didn’t have surgery scheduled that morning. She was seeing patients in the outpatient clinic.
When he arrived, there were still a bunch of patients sitting outside her office, waiting in line to be seen.
After a brief moment of thought, he turned around and left.
He felt that over the past few days, he’d been paying far too much attention to Nella, and that didn’t really fit his usual way of doing things.
But the moment he thought about the cold, distant look in Nella’s eyes when she looked at him, the confidence he once had, the kind where everything felt firmly under his control, suddenly vanished.
It was as if something was slipping out of his grasp, completely out of control.
-It was leaving him flustered and at a loss.
He knew something about this was wrong. He shouldn’t be like this.
All this time, all his energy had been poured into Keywood Group. He was so busy that he wished he could split every second into countless smaller ones just to get more done.
Back then, the reason he married Nella was precisely that she was easy to deal with and wouldn’t cause him trouble.
Yet these past few days, he’d spent far too much of his energy on her.
It was basically asking for trouble.
He figured it had to be because of what Mason said that day. That was the only reason he’d become so off-balance.
I can’t keep going on like this.
Alfred told himself this in his heart.
So he turned around and left the surgical building without looking back, his steps growing firm and decisive.
Keywood Group.
After the morning executive meeting wrapped up, while they were heading back, Sergio

lowered his voice, leaned in close to Alfred’s car, and asked, “Mr. Keywood, were you … satisfied with how things went yesterday? Was Mrs. Keywood happy?”
Full of confidence in his own plan, Sergio looked at his boss with cager anticipation.
He was hoping that successfully helping Alfred smooth things over with Nella would earn him a promotion, a raise, and a straight shot to the peak of life.
Instead, Alfred stopped walking and looked at him, his gaze noticeably colder.
“Is this what the company pays you for? To stick your nose into irrelevant nonsense?”
Sergio was puzzled.
Oh. Looks like it didn’t work.
Just look at that sour expression.
“From now on, don’t bring up anything unrelated to the company at work.”
“Got it, Mr. Keywood.”
Sergio nodding obediently.
Alfred took a few more steps, then stopped again and turned to look at Sergio, who was pretending to be quiet.
That cold stare, radiating danger, scared Sergio so badly that he didn’t dare take another step.
“If you feel like you have too much free time, there’s a new project in Fricana. You can go take charge of it.”
Sergio waved his hands in panic.
“No, no, no, Mr. Keywood. You know I’m busy. My schedule is just as packed as yours.”
Why do all domineering CEOs love sending their assistants to Fricana?
With so many assistants being shipped off, Fricana would’ve been fully developed by now, okay?
Sergio rolled his eyes internally while complaining in his head, but on the surface, he almost looked ready to drop to his knees in front of his boss.
Only after giving Sergio a cold, warning look did Alfred return to his office.
With the end of the year approaching, a pile of wrap-up projects had converged all at once, making the entire Keywood Group even busier than usual.

Alfred, as the CEO, was busier than anyone.
That entire day, he never stopped reviewing documents in his hands.
Almost as if he were deliberately avoiding thoughts of Nella, he packed his schedule even tighter.
It seemed to work. He spent the whole day without a single spare moment to think about anything related to her.
