No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 73

Chapter 73 Rainy Day

By the time work ended, it started raining again outside.

Compared to yesterday’s downpour, today’s rain was much lighter.

19.30

In wintertime Apex, whether it was snow, rain, or sleet, the temperature always dropped a few more degrees without mercy.

“Mr. Keywood, are we heading straight home?”

Alfred pressed a hand to his aching temples from a long day of work. Hearing Richie ask that, he paused.

His gaze landed on the rain falling nonstop outside the window. After two seconds of thought, he said, “Go to Apex Medical.”

“Alright.”

At Apex Medical University Hospital.

Nella wasn’t scheduled for the night shift today. As usual, after seeing her last few outpatient patients, Nella packed up and got ready to leave work.

“Nella, it’s raining outside. Did you bring an umbrella?”

Seeing her heading out, Jasmine asked with concern.

“It’s fine. It’s just a short walk. I’ve called a ride.”

Jasmine stopped her, handed her an umbrella, and said, “It’s flu season lately. Don’t catch a cold. I’m on the overnight shift tonight, so I won’t need it. Take mine.”

Hearing that, Nella didn’t refuse and took Jasmine’s umbrella.

“Oh, right. Didn’t you say a few days ago that you were looking for an apartment? My friend’s brother has a place near the hospital that’s empty. Their whole family is moving overseas to Murino. I mentioned that you’re looking. Do you want to go take a look?”

Nella’s eyes lit up.

“Sure. When would it be convenient? We can set a time. The Blessed Paw also told me that Marshal’s recovering pretty well. After a few more days of observation, he should be able to go home.

Jasmine had heard Nella talk about the little puppy she’d rescued that day.

She also knew Nella wanted to adopt Marshal and move out to live on her own.

“Then I’ll set something up with her tomorrow.”

“Okay.”

Nella nodded.

After saying goodbye to Jasmine, she left the hospital.

The rideshare she’d called earlier was already waiting at the entrance.

“Hi. Please take me to the Blessed Paw Clinic.”

The car slowly pulled away from Apex Medical University Hospital, brushing past a black Bentley that had just driven through the hospital gates.

The rain showed signs of getting heavier.

Sitting in the car, Alfred stared at the WhatsApp chat window he had opened with Nella.

The message he’d sent her a few minutes ago was still sitting there alone.

“It’s raining. I’ll come pick you up.”

Now, that message didn’t get a single reply.

An inexplicable fire burned in Alfred’s chest, with nowhere to vent.

“Nella, you’re really something,” he spoke through clenched teeth.

In the driver’s seat, Richie sneakily glanced at his boss through the rearview mirror.

Mr. Keywood is terrifying.

Tall and powerfully built, Richie instinctively scrunched his nose.

“No need to wait. We’re going back!”

“Okay.”

Just as Richie was about to start the car, Alfred spoke again.

“Wait.”

Richie turned back and saw Alfred reaching out his hand. “Give me the umbrella.”

“Alright, Mr. Keywood.”

Richie responded and quickly pulled a car umbrella from the front console storage, handing it to Alfred.

Alfred got out of the car, walking toward the surgical building while dialing Nella’s number.

But all the way until the call automatically disconnected, Nella never picked up.

Alfred’s expression darkened even further.
