The rain hit the ground and splashed up bubble after bubble, soaking the cuffs of Alfred’s
pants.
Reason told him he should turn around and leave right now.
He couldn’t let Nella lead him by the nose, yet his feet refused to listen, carrying him straight toward the surgical building.
“Mr. Keywood?”
A female voice filled with confusion rang out. Alfred looked up and saw Jasmine.
Alfred nodded at her as a greeting.
Because of Alfred’s cold treatment of Nella, Jasmine wasn’t particularly fond of him.
“Mr. Keywood, are you here to see a friend? This is the surgical building, not the inpatient -wing.”
There was a chill in Jasmine’s tone, and Alfred caught it immediately.
His wife’s best friend didn’t like him.
Alfred didn’t care. He simply asked, “Where’s Nella? I’m here to pick her
up from work.”
Jasmine froze for a moment, then let out a light scoff and laughed.
“You’re late, Mr. Keywood. Nella clocked out and left the hospital ten minutes ago.”
Hearing that, Alfred fell silent, his expression darkening.
After two seconds of thought, he said, “Thanks.”
Then he turned around again and left under his umbrella,
”
At that moment, Richie, who was still waiting in the car, saw that his boss looked even worse than before he got out. He didn’t dare stay in the car for even a second.
He jumped out into the rain to open the door for his boss, then endured his boss’s grim, terrifying expression as he returned to the driver’s seat and started the car.
“Mr. Keywood, are we … heading straight home now?”
“Yeah.”

Richie turned the steering wheel and slowly drove out of the hospital gates.
Even with the heater on, Richie felt a cold pressure wrapping around him, making his foot on the gas pedal tremble slightly.
If he didn’t control himself and shook too hard, the car might actually fly off the road.
Is Mr. Keywood mad because he failed to pick up Mrs. Keywood again?
Outside the window, the rain showed no sign of stopping, only getting heavier.
Richie watched the rainwater slide down the windshield.
From time to time, he secretly glanced at his boss’s face in the rearview mirror, his thoughts running wild.
Yeah, today’s rain is just like those sappy rainy scenes where the lead gets their heart broken.
None of those days ever ends well. Just like today, Mr. Keywood got ignored by Mrs. Keywood. Heh.
Meanwhile, Nella was still at the hospital, keeping Marshal company while he was on an IV drip.
After a few days of treatment, Marshal’s spirits were much better.
Once the IV was finished and she had fed him some canned food suitable for hospitalized pets, she went to the attending doctor’s office to ask a bit more about his condition.
The moment she stepped through the office door, she saw Rolf Padilla, who usually acted all formal and serious in front of her, humming a tune while spraying perfume into the air.
As Nella walked in, the perfume drifted right onto her.
It was a scent she knew well. Patchouli.
A calm, warm, woody note, one Alfred used often.
“Sorry, sorry.”
Seeing this, Rolf hurriedly apologized and immediately returned to his usual serious demeanor.
“Sorry, Ms. Milo. I wasn’t careful and got perfume on you.”
Rolf gave an awkward smile and apologized again.
“It’s fine.”
