No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 76

Chapter 76 Something Changed

The questioning edge in Alfred’s voice made Nella frown despite herself.

He’s really overstepping.

When he went off to keep Zoey company whenever he felt like it, I’ve never once questioned him.

So why is it that I got off work and didn’t go straight home, and he interrogated me as if I’d cheated on him?

She never expected that the mighty CEO of the Keywood Group could be this blatantly double-standard.

Alfred didn’t miss the flash of displeasure and resistance in Nella’s eyes as he stared at her.

She… finds me annoying?

Alfred widened his eyes in disbelief, staring at her in shock.

How could she look at me with such rejection?

It wasn’t like this before.

The

way

she used to look at him always carried a kind of affection he couldn’t put into words.

Yet her eyes had always told him everything.

But now, looking at Nella standing in front of him, he couldn’t see even a trace of what used to be there, no matter how hard he tried.

That realization made Alfred panic, and his grip tightened without him noticing.

The pain made Nella let out a soft gasp.

“You’re hurting me.”

She frowned at him and calmly pointed it out.

Her tone was flat, not heated or angry.

Yet that very calm cut Alfred far deeper.

The patchouli scent drifting to his nose felt poisonous, stabbing straight into the shadowed nerves between his brows.

His eyes were red as he stubbornly pushed for an answer.

“Where did you go?”

Nella was about to brush him off with the same excuse as yesterday when he cut in first.

“Don’t tell me you went to some nearby mall again.”

That single sentence completely shut down the excuse she hadn’t even finished forming.

She shrugged and said, “If you don’t believe me, there’s nothing I can do.”

After dropping that universally infuriating line, Nella stepped forward to go inside.

It was like another silent blow slammed into Alfred’s chest.

He refused to let go, his eyes locked onto her, looking even redder now.

“You can’t even bother with a decent excuse for me?”

Nella stopped and glanced sideways at the man beside her, who suddenly felt oddly unfamiliar.

She honestly didn’t understand what Alfred was so hung up on.

“Mr. Keywood, what are you actually trying to say?”

Alfred froze. He wanted to ask whose men’s cologne was on her.

He should’ve been able to ask it outright.

But when the words reached his throat, they stuck there, as if he were lying to himself, refusing

to come out.

Just as Nella was running out of patience, he spoke hoarsely, “You used to call me by my name. Why did you suddenly change how you address me?”

His question made Nella frown.

“That’s what you wanted to ask?”

Alfred instinctively wanted to deny it, but in the end, he stayed silent.

Nella went on, “It’s just a form of address. Why are you nitpicking over this?”

But Alfred refused to let it go.

There was an unprecedented stubbornness on his face.

Finished

As if the man who’d spent all day telling himself not to devote too much time to Nella had never existed.

“If it’s just a form of address, then change it back. Call me the way you used to.”

Only then did Nella realize something was off about Alfred.

He was usually composed and restrained. Even around Zoey, he rarely showed emotions this openly.
