No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 79

Chapter 79 The Damn Contract

“Nella…”

Desire colored Alfred’s voice.

He lowered his head slowly, chasing those soft, pink lips.

Just as his lips touched hers, Nella called his name in panic.

“Alfred.”

Her palm pressed against his solid chest, her voice trembling.

Alfred froze. The haze in his dark eyes cleared for a brief moment.

He looked at her as she spoke slowly, “That’s not in the contract.”

Alfred’s eyes narrowed slightly, confusion flickering through them. “What?”

Nella closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“Our marriage contract doesn’t include this.”

Alfred’s gaze stalled for two seconds. Then understanding dawned.

And after that, a thin layer of anger settled in.

“Nella, we’re legally married.”

He forced down the heat surging in his lower body and reminded her through clenched teeth.

He didn’t know whether he was angry that she stopped him at the last second, or that she’d brought up that damn contract at a moment like this.

Nella lowered her eyes, digging her fingertips into her palm to keep herself from losing control in this strange atmosphere.

“Yeah,” she answered softly.

“Only in name.”

Sure, it was legally recognized.

But it was nothing more than a marriage put on for others to see.

Chapter 79 The Damn Contract

Summoning all her courage, she looked up again.

Finished

Meeting Alfred’s deep, faintly angry gaze, she reminded him once more, “Did you forget? We signed an agreement. We stay out of each other’s lives. It’s a marriage in name only.”

Her words were like a bucket of ice water poured straight over Alfred’s head, dousing all the heat that had been stirred up inside him.

He stared at her for a long moment. Then, he slowly released her, lowered his eyes, and said quietly, “Sorry.”

Nella nodded, forcing down the sting in her eyes, and walked past him out of the bathroom.

She went straight into the dressing room and shut the door.

Only after Alfred was completely gone did she collapse onto the leather bench inside.

The marriage agreement she’d signed with Alfred back then was simple.

On the surface, they would present themselves as a normal married couple, each responsible for dealing with family elders and social obligations.

In private, they wouldn’t interfere in each other’s personal lives. They would give each other as much personal space as possible.

When the contract expired, the husband would provide a divorce settlement.

Neither party could refuse to end the contract for any reason.

But they also couldn’t cross the boundaries set by the agreement, especially any behavior that made the other uncomfortable.

In short, they were coworkers living under the same roof.

For three years, Alfred had been calm and restrained.

Just as he said, in front of every Keywood relative, he’d given her all the respect due to the lady of the Keywoods.

He never crossed any lines that made her uncomfortable, and he never interfered with her private relationships.

Likewise, he wouldn’t allow her to do anything that repelled or offended him.

But this was a man Nella had secretly loved for ten years.
