As Alfred passed by the young nurse, he suddenly stopped and said to her, “I’m Dr. Milo’s husband.”
Nella’s steps halted abruptly, her brows knitting together at once.
The nurse froze, disbelief written all over her face.
“You weren’t even her boyfriend the other day. It’s only been a few days, and you’re already married?”
She remembered how, in the cafeteria that day, Nella had personally denied that this handsome man was her boyfriend.
Nella didn’t respond. She only gave the nurse an awkward smile and urged Alfred to leave.
But Alfred, stubborn for no clear reason, insisted on making his identity known.
“We’ve been married for three years.”
The nurse was stunned.
Sensing the irritation in Alfred’s tone, her smile stiffened awkwardly.
“U-uh… Dr. Milo certainly kept it well hidden. We had no idea she was married.”
Alfred’s expression darkened further.
“Alfred Keywood.” Grinding her teeth, Nella called him again. “Let’s go.”
She didn’t know what had gotten into him, insisting on letting others know they were married.
He was just making trouble for her.
Alfred followed behind Nella with a dark expression, heading toward the injection room.
Behind them, the nurse muttered in confusion, “Alfred Keywood? That name sounds really familiar…”
A moment later, an explosive exclamation burst from the treatment room. “Wait, is he the big boss of Keywood Group?!”
Nella handed the medication to the nurse in the injection room and had Alfred sit down.
“When your number’s called, go to the counter and let the nurse hook you up.”

“And you?” Alfred asked without thinking.
“I’m going to step out for a bit.”
She felt that the only reasons she’d managed to tolerate Alfred this far were the meds Lyra prescribed and her basic sense of medical ethics.
“You’re not staying here with me?”
A flicker of disappointment passed through Alfred’s hurried tone.
“It’s just an IV. Why would I need to stay?”
Alfred looked at her with wounded eyes.
“Haven’t you heard? When someone’s sick, they’re the most vulnerable. That’s when they need someone with them the most.”
Nella almost rolled her eyes.
She really couldn’t associate the word “vulnerable” with Alfred.
Even if, at this moment, he truly did look a bit vulnerable.
“You’re my wife. Staying with me while I see a doctor is your responsibility,” Alfred said stubbornly.
“It’s in the contract,” he added again, staring straight at Nella, afraid she’d turn and walk away.
Sure enough, Nella hesitated when she heard that.
There really was such a clause in their agreement.
As husband and wife, they were obligated to support each other in public.
Unbidden, Nella thought of herself pinned beneath the snow.
She wanted to ask Alfred whether he’d lived up to it.
But in the end, she lost all interest in arguing and simply said, “Fine.”
She didn’t notice the slight release of tension on Alfred’s face when she nodded.
Alfred glanced at her, a trace of self-mockery flashing through his mind.
He’d never imagined he’d one day resort to something this shameless just to keep Nella by his
