Even so, Nella knew very well that if word got out in the hospital that she was Mrs. Keywood, she’d inevitably become a topic of discussion.
Yet she still once hoped that one day, Alfred would tell others that she was his wife.
But later, little by little, she stopped holding onto that unrealistic hope.
She even comforted herself, thinking that a secret marriage wasn’t so bad. At least it saved her a lot of trouble.
But just when she’d completely given up on that idea, Alfred went and let others know about their relationship, completely out of the blue.
Ugh, it’s so damn annoying!
That was the only thought in Nella’s mind.
That uncontrollable irritation peaked the moment Alfred’s face came to mind.
The paper cup in her hand was crushed flat, and the warm water she’d just poured spilled out, soaking her sleeve.
She snapped back to her senses.
Looking at her damp sleeve, the agitation in her eyes surged even harder.
She took a deep breath, picked up her phone, and dialed a number.
“Hello, Dr. Moore. Are you

free?”
“Dr. Moore, again, I’m sorry to bother you. I’m feeling much better now.”
After hanging up, she turned and headed back.
The earlier restlessness had eased quite a bit after talking things through with her therapist.
“Ms. Milo?”
A familiar voice sounded from behind Nella.
She turned around and saw Marshal’s attending physician from the pet hospital, holding a snow-white toy bichon in his arms.

“Oh, hey, Dr. Padilla,” Nella greeted him.
Her gaze was immediately drawn to the bichon in his arms.
She stepped closer, lifted one of its little paws, and gently kneaded it in her hand.
“Is this your dog?”
“It’s my girlfriend’s dog. She has gastroenteritis and a fever and is getting an IV in the next room. She couldn’t bear to leave Jewel behind, so I went home and brought Jewel over.”
When he mentioned his girlfriend, Nella noticed Rolf’s eyes light up without him even realizing it.
She thought, This must be what real couples look like.
When they talk about the person they love, their eyes shine from the inside out.
Jewel was the bichon in his arms.
“Jewel, say hi to Ms. Milo.”
As if it understood, Jewel nudged Nella’s arm with her round, neatly trimmed head.
She was so cute that Nella’s eyes curved into a smile.
Nella didn’t notice at all that, not far away, Alfred’s IV hand had lowered slightly against his thigh.
His other hand held the IV bag as he silently watched the two of them from a distance.
During that time, Nella casually asked a bit more about Marshal’s condition.
Hearing that Marshal would be discharged soon, the smile on her face became even more sincere.
Alfred thought about it carefully.
It seemed like it had been a very, very long time since he’d last seen Nella smile so brightly.
“I’ll take Jewel back in now.”
“Okay.”
She patted the little dog’s head. “Bye, Jewel.”

Jewel was very friendly. She stuck out her tongue and happily licked Nella’s cheek.
Nella couldn’t help laughing again.
Only after watching Rolf and Jewel head into the neighboring infusion room did Nella reluctantly pull her gaze away from the dog.
