Chapter 505 Waiting Alone

Nolan had planned everything. At midnight, he was going to tell her how he felt.

He was going to say that he had loved her for years. That he had never stopped.

He had so much he wanted to say.

But she wasn’t here. So who was he supposed to say it to?

In his hands, he held two balloons. Little notes tied to the strings-wishes, blessings, clumsy attempts at romance.

He wasn’t a poetic man. But he was trying. Awkwardly, earnestly, he was trying to be someone she could want.

He wanted her to see that he could be good to her.

But she never showed.

Nolan stood in the crowd and felt, suddenly, like he didn’t belong there.

Like a ghost moving through the living. Extra. Unwanted.

A hand tapped his arm. “Hey, handsome. Wanna ring in Christmas together?”

He turned. Hope flickered across his face-then died. It wasn’t her.

His expression went cold. The warmth drained out of it. “Sorry. I’m waiting for someone.”

The girl shrugged and drifted away.

Time was running out. Nolan’s chest felt hollow.

No missed calls. No texts from her.

Maybe the traffic was bad, he told himself. Downtown was always a mess on New Year’s.

She’ll come. She promised.

But when the countdown began, she still wasn’t there.

When it ended, the crowd erupted. Balloons released into the dark sky. Voices shouting “Merry Christmas!”

People hugged. Kissed. Proposed.

None of it was his.

His moon hadn’t risen. The night stayed dark.

At Langley Villa, the countdown reached zero.

Damian lifted his head. His lips brushed Scarlett’s, light and brief. His face was pale, but when he smiled, the usual arrogance softened into something quieter.

He wasn’t sharp or mocking. He was just… gentle.

He said, “Merry Christmas, my love. This year, I’m going to get closer to you.”

He raised an eyebrow on the last word.

Scarlett looked at his mischievous face and thought of Nolan. Unease pricked at her. “You’re fine now. I should go.”

Damian’s smile faltered. His eyes narrowed slightly. “Where? To see Nolan? You think he’s still waiting for you?”

She didn’t answer.

She didn’t want to argue. Not when he was still bleeding.

She stepped back.

He reached for her hand. Missed.

Scarlett turned and walked out of the room without looking back.

Damian could have stopped her. He didn’t.

When Scarlett got downstairs, she remembered her phone was dead.

But she knew Nolan. She knew him well enough to know he wouldn’t leave until she showed
