No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 552

Vanessa was still just a little kid. The fact that she could make something like that on her own was already pretty impressive.

Scarlett looked over the little figure and gave her a warm smile. "Vanessa, this is really beautiful. You're so talented."

Vanessa offered a small smile in return. "Thanks, Mom."

Seeing her daughter looking so sweet and cheerful tugged at Scarlett's heart.

But knowing she'd be heading to meet Vincent later to finalize the divorce made her chest ache a little more. Once the papers were signed, she wouldn't have custody of Vanessa anymore.

Looking at her now, she felt a pang of reluctance she hadn't expected.

Still, no matter how much it hurt, she knew there was no turning back. This marriage had run its course. There was no reason left to hold on.

After setting the clay figurine down, Scarlett knelt and wrapped her arms around Vanessa, her voice soft as she whispered near her ear, "Sweetheart, promise me you'll always stay this good, okay?"

Vanessa gave a small nod. "Okay."

Scarlett gently pulled back, brushing a few stray hairs from Vanessa's face. "From now on, listen to your dad, work hard in school, be kind to the other kids in your class, and no yelling or hitting, alright? And don't ever bully anyone."

Vanessa thought her mom was being a little dramatic, but she nodded anyway. "Okay."

Scarlett sat on the edge of the bed and picked up a comb from the nightstand. "How about Mommy braids your hair? Make you look extra pretty today."

Vanessa hesitated for just a second, then nodded.

That small gesture was enough to make Scarlett's eyes well up again.

She carefully undid Vanessa's ponytail and wove her hair into a few small braids, adding little clips here and there.

When she was done, Scarlett smiled at her work, warmth flooding her chest.

It had been so long since she'd last done something like this for her daughter.

Vanessa stood quietly in front of her, feeling the gentle touch of her mother's fingers. For a moment, she froze.

Memories she'd tucked away started surfacing—times when her mom used to dress her up, take her out, make her feel like the center of the world.

A tiny sob escaped her throat.

Hearing it, Scarlett immediately leaned in. "What's wrong? You feeling okay?"

Vanessa quickly wiped her eyes and turned to face her. She reached for Scarlett's hand. "Mom, we should go downstairs now. Dad's waiting. You two have things to do."

Right. The divorce. Scarlett swallowed hard and nodded. "Okay."

They left the room together.

At the top of the stairs, Scarlett paused. "Vanessa, you go ahead."

Vanessa shook her head. "No, Mom. You first."

Scarlett smiled, touched by what she thought was a small act of thoughtfulness.
