No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 553

Normally, if Scarlett said no to something once, Vanessa wouldn't push it a second time.

But this morning, she'd brought it up more than twice.

Looking back now, it almost felt like she'd already made up her mind—like she'd already figured out how to push her down those stairs.

But Vanessa was so young. How could a child even think like that?

Scarlett didn't want to believe it. But the truth was right in front of her, and she couldn't ignore it anymore.

Noticing that Scarlett hadn't responded in a while, Vincent reached out and touched her forehead. It was ice cold.

He tensed up, his voice rough as he asked, "Scarlett. You hear me?"

She turned her head slightly, avoiding his gaze. Her voice came out low and hoarse. "What time is it?"

Vincent glanced at his watch. "Eight."

She didn't say anything else.

Her heart wasn't just hurting anymore. It felt completely hollow.

The ache came from what Vanessa might have done. The numbness came from the divorce.

When she and Vincent had gotten married, the whole thing took maybe ten minutes at the courthouse. No vows. No ceremony. But now, trying to end it? They'd already tried twice and failed.

Vincent saw the distant look in her eyes. "What are you thinking about?"

She didn't answer. Just said, "Go home. We'll deal with this tomorrow."

Even now, lying in a hospital bed, all she could think about was finalizing the divorce.

Hearing that, something snapped in him. "You're seriously still talking about divorce right now?"

Scarlett didn't have the strength to fight. Her voice stayed flat. "Vincent. This has to happen."

The calm certainty in her words only made him angrier. He let out a bitter laugh. "If you've got the energy to bring that up, I guess you're feeling better than you look."

She didn't respond. But the thought that kept circling in her mind—that Vanessa might have pushed her—sent another chill straight through her.

Her eyes reddened before she could stop it, and tears slipped down her temples.

Vincent noticed, but there was no sympathy in his expression. Just irritation. "What are you crying for?"

The annoyance in his tone was unmistakable.

Scarlett turned her head and looked at him, eyes bloodshot. "Get out."

She yelled it, her voice cracking with the effort, the veins standing out in her neck.
