No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 556

But his daughter was so young. There was no way she could have that kind of intent.

He turned it over in his mind again and again, but no matter how he looked at it, he couldn't bring himself to believe that Vanessa was capable of something like that.

After a few cigarettes, he forced himself to stop thinking about it. He needed to trust his daughter.

His thoughts drifted to Sabrina. It had been a while since they'd talked—and she hadn't reached out to him either.

So he called her.

It rang a few times before she picked up.

"Vincent." Her voice came through soft, familiar.

Something in his chest settled at the sound. He answered gently, then asked, "How have you been? How's your dad doing?"

"Better," she said. "He's starting to talk again."

Vincent smiled at that. "That's good to hear."

She just murmured a quiet "Mm" and let the silence stretch.

He noticed. "That's all you've got to say?"

There was a pause on her end. "Vincent... I've missed you. A little."

A real smile crossed his face for the first time that night. "I'll come see you in a few days. Things are a mess right now—can't get away."

She didn't ask what kind of mess. "Okay. I'm gonna go now."

Before he could respond, she hung up.

He stood there for a moment, listening to the silence.

At Nebula General Hospital, Sabrina had taken the call in the stairwell.

She'd ended it quickly because she saw Daniel standing at the entrance.

He looked exhausted. His eyes were red-rimmed, his expression unreadable as he watched her.

She slipped her phone into her pocket. "Daniel. What are you doing here?"

"Daniel." Her voice was softer now. "I'm with Vincent. You shouldn't—you can't do this."

She tried to pull away again, but his grip didn't loosen.

The next moment, he pulled her into his arms. Tight. Desperate.

His voice was thick against her ear. "Sabrina. You know how I feel. Just—just look at me. Please."

She couldn't push him off. Her chin rested on his shoulder, trapped. "Let go. Come on, just let go—"

He wasn't listening. His voice rose, ragged. "Vincent doesn't love you. Not the way I do. I'm the one who actually loves you."

She could barely breathe. She pounded weakly against his back. "Daniel—I can't—I can't breathe—"

He finally let go.

His eyes were wet, his jaw tight. "I love you. I'd give up everything—everything I have—for you."

She already knew how he felt. He'd buried it for years, out of loyalty to Vincent. But now he wasn't hiding anymore.

Standing there, listening to him lay it all bare, something twisted in her chest. A strange mix of satisfaction and guilt settled there, heavy and complicated.
