Scarlett felt a flash of discomfort and quickly reached out to stop him. "Nolan, it's really nothing. You don't need to check."
Nolan didn't listen, but he also didn't push her pant leg up further. Instead, he gently pressed against her leg through the fabric. When he saw the pain flicker across her face, his expression darkened with concern. "How did this happen?"
Scarlett looked down, avoiding his eyes. "I just fell. It's not a big deal."
Violet stood quietly behind the wheelchair, watching but saying nothing.
Nolan's worry was written all over his face. "You need surgery and you're telling me it's not a big deal? Scarlett, you don't have to be so tough around me."
Scarlett stayed silent, her head dropping lower.
Nolan softened. He couldn't bring himself to push further. "I'll call a friend of mine. He's a great surgeon. He'll do the operation."
At that, Scarlett's head shot up, anxious. "Nolan, it's not that serious. You really don't have to—"
He cut her off gently but firmly. "If this isn't done right, you'll have problems down the line. Just let me handle this, okay?"
She looked into his eyes and found she couldn't say no.
Behind her, Violet spoke up, "If Mr. Huntley can help my sister get a better doctor, then thank you in advance."
Nolan glanced up at her. "No need to be formal. It's the least I can do."
Violet offered a small smile and said nothing more.
Still visibly concerned, Nolan insisted on taking Scarlett back to the hospital for another look.
She tried to argue, but in the end, she let him have his way.
Back at the hospital, Nolan examined her first, then stepped out to make a call.
He returned a few minutes later.
Standing by her bed, the overhead light casting a warm glow over him, he smiled gently. "It's all set. My friend's coming by tonight."
Scarlett hesitated, then said quietly, "That's really kind of you, Nolan."
He shook his head. "As long as you're okay, it's worth it."
Her eyes reddened. She looked down. "Thank you, Nolan."
Something in her voice made his chest tighten.
He opened his mouth. "Scarlett, actually..."
He trailed off, the words caught in his throat.
She looked up, curious. "What is it?"
