No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 628

When she picked up, Caleb's voice came through frantic and rushed. "Sabrina, I need to talk to you. We have to meet."

Before she could even respond, he hung up.

By noon, Sabrina had made it to the café Caleb had texted her.

The moment she sat down, he lit into her. "I called you forever ago. What took you so long?"

The anxiety in his voice was impossible to miss. He looked like something major had gone down.

Still, being snapped at for no reason rubbed her the wrong way. She shot back, "I had class, Caleb. It's not like I'm just sitting around waiting for your calls."

Caleb didn't have the patience to argue. He cut straight to the point. "I need you to lend me some money."

Sabrina's brow furrowed. "Money? What do you need money for all of a sudden?"

Caleb ran a financial services firm. Both Vincent's and Daniel's money flowed through his company's accounts.

We're talking hundreds of millions, sometimes billions. Just the interest on that alone kept his business afloat—and then some. Him asking her for money felt like a bad joke.

But the look on his face said otherwise. He was pale, almost bloodless, his eyes darting nervously. "I borrowed some of the money Vincent had me transfer—just temporarily—and lent it to someone. He swore he'd pay me back in two days. It's been over a week. I still don't have it. Vincent's payroll is coming up. If I can't cover it, he's going to come down on me hard."

Sabrina stared at him, disbelief and anger twisting in her chest. "Wait—you did what? That's payroll money, Caleb. For Vincent's employees. What the hell were you thinking?"

Caleb's jaw tightened. His voice came out sharp. "Keep your voice down. You want the whole place to hear? And for the record—this guy, he's like a brother to me. We've been through things together. How was I supposed to say no?"

Sabrina's voice climbed higher. "A friend? Are you hearing yourself right now? You lent him that money, fine. But if Vincent's people don't get paid, who's going to answer for that? Me? You?"

Caleb was spiraling, and desperation made him reckless. "Look, that financial firm was never really anything on its own. It only survived because Vincent and Daniel kept it alive. If I can't come up with the money, I'll deal with the fallout. Let them do what they want."

That sent a chill straight through her. "This is Vincent we're talking about. You really think he'll just let it slide? If the amount is big enough, he can press charges. A felony conviction—do you have any idea what that would do to us?"

He shot back, "That's why I called you! So we could figure something out. Not so you could sit here yelling at me. Is that going to solve anything?"

Sabrina pressed her lips together, forcing herself to breathe.

After a long moment, she steadied her voice. "Okay. How much did you take?"

Caleb held up two fingers.
