Vanessa scowled at Luke, her small face scrunching up defiantly. "Hmph, I'm telling Daddy. Just wait—he'll deal with you."

Without another word, she spun around and dashed toward the living room, intent on calling Vincent.

But before she could get far, Luke caught her by the arm. "No, you're not doing that."

Now even more upset, Vanessa shot back, "You're mean, Uncle Luke. Really mean."

Luke bit back the sharp reply on his tongue—with Sabrina standing right there, he knew better than to lose his temper.

Worried the situation might spiral, Sabrina quickly stepped between them. Gently prying Luke's hand away, she said in a calm but firm tone, "Luke, why don't you head home now? I'll take care of things here."

Seeing her resolve, Luke gave a reluctant nod. "Alright. I'll get going then."

"Okay. Bye," Sabrina replied softly.

Once Luke had left, Sabrina guided Vanessa back into the living room and closed the door behind them.

Kneeling so she was eye-level with the little girl, Sabrina spoke gently, "Vanessa, Uncle Luke wasn't being mean to me, okay? How about we keep what happened tonight between us? No need to tell Dad."

Vanessa thought it over, then nodded slowly—but not without conditions. "Only if you promise me something too."

Though inwardly annoyed, Sabrina kept her smile steady. "What is it?"

Vanessa tilted her head, thinking hard before poking Sabrina's cheek lightly. "I want you to have a baby brother or sister for me."

At preschool, Vanessa hadn't made many friends. While other kids paired off or played in groups, she often found herself alone.

After turning it over in her mind, she'd decided what she really needed was a built-in playmate—and that meant Sabrina having a baby.

Sabrina remembered telling Vanessa once how scared she was of the pain of childbirth. Luke had even backed her up, mentioning how Scarlett said it was incredibly painful and messy—he didn't want Sabrina going through that.

Yet here was Vanessa, asking for exactly that.

Puzzled, Sabrina cupped Vanessa's cheek. "Sweetie, why are you bringing this up now?"

But Vanessa just shook Sabrina's arm impatiently. "So, will you or not? If you don't, I'm telling Dad that Uncle Luke was holding your hand."

Defeated, Sabrina let out a quiet sigh. "Okay, alright. I will."

Almost as soon as the words left her mouth, she hurried to add, "But Vanessa, even if I do, it can only happen after your dad and I are married."

Vanessa didn't care about the details—all she heard was the agreement.

Throwing her arms around Sabrina, she beamed. "I knew you were the best, Sabrina!"
