Damian's shameless comment instantly made Sabrina flustered. She quickly looked away and turned toward the opposite window.
Vincent glanced sideways at her and saw exactly that.
When he looked forward again, he sneered coldly. "You really love hearing yourself talk, don't you?"
Damian only smiled wider. "Whether I'm imagining things or not, I guess that depends on Miss Monroe."
Just then, the light turned green.
Vincent stopped responding altogether and drove off immediately.
Damian still had to wait for the left-turn signal.
As he rolled the window back up, he glanced toward Scarlett and noticed how calm she looked, completely unfazed by the entire exchange.
The sight amused him.
Scarlett turned toward him curiously. "What's so funny?"
"Nothing," Damian said easily. "I'm just in a good mood."
Scarlett could already guess why, so she let the conversation drop.
Meanwhile, after Vincent pulled away, Sabrina carefully turned toward him.
His jaw was tight, every line of his face tense and cold, and not even the slightest trace of warmth remained in his expression.
Sabrina's chest tightened uneasily.
"Vincent," she said quietly, "maybe we should just move on from all this. As long as we're okay together, isn't that enough?"
Vincent's expression stayed icy.
"Move on?" he repeated sharply. "Then what about everything you went through?"
Sabrina looked at him carefully before asking the question that had been weighing on her all along.
"Are you really doing this for me," she asked softly, "or are you trying to prove something to Damian?"
Vincent answered immediately.
"For you."
It was exactly the answer Sabrina wanted. And yet she still fell silent afterward.
Because deep down, she knew that wasn't entirely true.
Maybe part of this was about defending her, but even more than that, Vincent wanted to win.
The rest of the drive to Harris's birthday dinner passed in complete silence.
Neither of them spoke again.
About fifteen minutes later, the car pulled up outside an upscale steakhouse downtown.
As they stepped out together, Sabrina instinctively slipped her arm through Vincent's. Vincent glanced down briefly but didn't pull away.
Together, they walked inside.
