He parted his lips, yet no proper words came out.

Stammering awkwardly, he wound up unable to voice a single question.

Scarlett sniffled, cheeks flushed as she looked toward Damian and spoke earnestly, "I know exactly how you feel about me, and I hope you understand mine too."

Her head drooped slowly afterward, her tone sinking into dejection, voice rough from crying. "I'm still legally married, though. I can't promise you anything right now."

Scarlett had countless things she wanted to share with Damian, yet he already knew all her troubles, so she held back the rest of her words.

Not far away stood Vincent. He'd turned back after leaving the mall, and the sight of Scarlett leaning in to kiss Damian had landed straight in his line of sight.

He'd already reached the parking lot downstairs, but unease over Scarlett had gnawed at him until he'd decided to circle back.

Sabrina had begged and clung to him, tears streaming down her face to stop his return, yet he'd brushed her off without hesitation and hurried back anyway.

Now he'd walked right into a scene he never wanted to witness.

Vincent curled his hands into tight fists, knuckles creaking from how hard he squeezed.

In the next instant, Damian pulled Scarlett into a tight hug, and she wrapped her arms around him in return.

Locked in each other's hold, they clung close, unwilling to pull apart after clearing up their unspoken feelings.

Unable to bear the sight any longer, Vincent spun on his heel and left, his features dark and twisted with simmering resentment.

Damian held Scarlett, his throat tight with emotion. "Thank you for being honest with me. This means the world; at least I know none of what I've done for you was for nothing."

Scarlett melted into his embrace, drawing warmth from his body.
