No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 831

Silence hung heavy on both ends of the call. After a long stretch, Scarlett could no longer hold back her anxiety and spoke softly, "Mr. Newman, how did Nolan's matching test results turn out?"

Thomas had poured nearly every resource he had into the search. Scarlett had clung to a faint glimmer of hope that someone would be a compatible match. But the outcome she'd prayed for never came. Thomas let out a deep, weary sigh before answering her.

"There's no suitable donor."

Every last thread of hope inside Scarlett shattered at those words. She fell silent for ages, unable to utter a single word. She sat on the edge of her bed, staring blankly into thin air, hot tears spilling down her cheeks all the same.

Thomas' voice crackled through the phone line. "Scarlett, start sorting out your graduate school application materials. We've done everything we can for Nolan."

Scarlett hated to accept this bitter truth, yet she had no other choice. She let out a quiet, defeated hum.

"I understand."

"I'll hang up then," Thomas said.

His tone sounded far older and drained than usual. Scarlett's heart ached for him, but she couldn't think of a single comforting thing to say, so she stayed silent.

Once the call ended, Scarlett sat frozen by the bed for a long while, lost in thought.

Nolan is such an extraordinary, brilliant man—why does fate keep throwing such cruel hardships his way?

The world was never fair to begin with. If even Thomas had exhausted all options, there was nothing she could do no matter how frantic she grew.

She'd just lain down to rest when her phone's video call ringtone chimed. She glanced down without needing to check the caller ID; it was Damian.

She hesitated a few seconds before answering the call. The second the connection went through, Damian's handsome face filled the entire screen, a plain white office wall visible behind him.

The second she laid eyes on him, her mind instantly drifted back to last night and earlier that day. She was a woman with natural physical needs, but in all the years she'd spent with Vincent, she'd never craved intimacy this fiercely with anyone the way she ached for Damian right now. Her body spoke far louder than her words ever could.

"What are you up to, baby?" Damian noticed her distant, distracted expression and asked gently.

Scarlett pulled her wandering thoughts back to the present. "I was about to lie down for the night."

He could tell something weighed on her heart and cut straight to the point. "You're worried about Nolan, aren't you?"

She didn't bother hiding it and nodded. "A little bit."
