Since Zachary had reminded him, today must be some special occasion. Yet his mind was filled with nothing but intimate moments with Scarlett, and he simply could not recall what the day was for.
On impulse, he nearly blurted out that it marked their thirteenth time being together. Before he could speak, Zachary sounded displeased on the line. "You really have forgotten, haven't you?"
"Yep," Damian replied.
The next second, he leaned in and kissed Scarlett spontaneously. She did not pull away, instead deepening the kiss. Soft, breathy sounds escaped them as their lips met.
Zachary picked up the faint noises over the phone and cut in bluntly. "What's going on over there? Have you gone so long without company that you're resorting to videos to pass the time?"
Damian pulled back from Scarlett. His arm stayed wrapped around her, and his gaze lingered tenderly on her face, but his voice turned sharp as he spoke to Zachary, "Shut up."
"Alright, I won't tease a man who's never known a woman's warmth," Zachary replied in a patronizing tone.
"Speak for yourself," Damian retorted without mercy. "Don't act like you've had your pick of women."
Zachary fell silent, left with nothing to say in response.
Scarlett looped her arms around Damian's neck and nestled against his chest, listening quietly to his phone call.
After a brief pause, Damian spoke again, "Cut the act. What did you call for? What's so special about today anyway?"
Zachary let out a long sigh. "I'm going to tell Eric about this. His own godfather forgot his birthday. Don't even try to lie and say you remembered—I won't buy it. I'm definitely reporting you."
Panic flashed across Damian's face the instant he heard that. He quickly made an excuse. "Who said I forgot? I've already bought his gift."
Zachary did not believe a word of it. "Turn on your video camera then. Let me see what you got him."
"Can't do that," Damian refused outright.
