Scarlett thought his words sounded nothing but boastful. She froze for a moment, unsure how to respond.
Seeing her stay quiet, Damian buried his face in the crook of her neck. "Go on, hit me."
Scarlett did not refuse. She raised her hand and gave his waist a firm pinch.
"Ouch!" Damian winced. "You actually did it? Don't you feel sorry for your husband at all?"
Scarlett's cheeks flushed bright red as she looked at him. "You asked for it yourself."
Damian feigned a hurt look. "Can't you tell when I'm speaking ironically? You're so obedient now, but why wouldn't you agree to marry me back then?"
Scarlett fell silent after hearing his words.
Realizing he had brought up a sensitive topic, Damian quickly apologized. "I'm sorry. I won't talk about the past anymore."
A twinge of sorrow welled up inside Scarlett. She looked straight at Damian without hiding her feelings, cupped his face in her hands, and spoke earnestly, "Damian, if I had met you first, I know I would have chosen you."
With that, she leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to the corner of his lips.
Damian sat rigidly on the backseat, his mind going completely blank. He was stunned and remained motionless for a long time.
When he finally snapped out of it, his eyes grew red-rimmed. "It's my fault. I didn't hold on hard enough back then."
Scarlett shook her head. "Let's leave the past behind us."
"Alright." Damian pulled her into his arms. "No more looking back. Let's only focus on our future."
Scarlett rested her head against his chest, listening to his steady, powerful heartbeat. She felt utterly relaxed in his embrace. Being with him brought her immense ease and joy.
Noticing how worn out she looked, Damian's heart softened. "Get some more sleep. We'll head out once you wake up."
Scarlett was truly exhausted. She had rested earlier, but their intense moments together had drained her again, and she longed for more rest. She nodded silently and closed her eyes in his arms.
...
Meanwhile, Vincent had indeed seen the message Damian sent: "He can keep up all night. Why wouldn't I want him?"

The message from Scarlett unsettled him deeply. If what it implied was true, then they had already crossed the line together. How could that be? She loves me, so how could she give herself to another man?
Could she be deliberately saying Damian was far more satisfying, just to tell me I failed to make her happy?
A strange thought crossed his mind. Do I need to prove myself to her?
