Just then, Harris called out to her from behind. "Ms. Theron."

Scarlett paused and turned around. "What is it?"

Harris spoke with genuine concern, "I'm truly happy you've found happiness. But I must warn you, Vincent is a complicated man. He will never let this rest once he sees you with Damian."

A flicker of unease stirred in Scarlett's heart.

Damian stepped forward at once. "No need for your concern, Mr. Whitmore. I will protect the woman I love."

Harris simply smiled faintly in response.

Seeing this, Damian had no wish to linger. "We have somewhere to be, so we'll take our leave."

He pulled Scarlett close to his side and headed toward the private dining room Zachary had told them about.

"Ms. Theron." Harris called out again before they could walk far.

Scarlett stopped once more and looked back, her eyes filled with confusion. "Is there anything else, Mr. Whitmore?"

Harris met her gaze openly and spoke softly, "I wish to see Ms. Wright."

Scarlett could guess his intention. After a brief silence, she replied gently, "I cannot make decisions for Claire. If she does not wish to meet you, I cannot force her. There is little you can do by coming to me."

Harris listened quietly and nodded. "I understand."

"I'm glad you do," Scarlett smiled.

Talking to Harris felt far easier than speaking with Vincent or Daniel.

"Then I won't keep you any longer," Harris said. He turned and left first.

Scarlett turned back to Damian, only to find him looking utterly flustered.

"What's wrong?" she asked, confused by his reaction.

Frowning, Damian wore a look of deep regret. "I promised Clara this morning that I'd take her strawberry picking this afternoon. But I... I broke my word. It's all my fault."
