Though covered with a blanket, Damian's bare upper body was mostly exposed.
Seeing him so scantily clad, Ruth couldn't help but remark, "What? Did I interrupt something?"
Damian kept Scarlett tightly in his arms, not moving an inch. He simply said to Ruth, "Mom, wait outside. I'll call you in once I'm dressed."
At that, Ruth huffed, "I've seen every inch of you when you were little. Now you're all grown up, talking to your own mother like this?"
Helpless, Damian shot her a look, signaling someone was beside him.
Once Ruth caught on, she felt a surge of annoyance. "Damian Langley, have you gotten too big for your boots? You couldn't win Scarlett over, so now you dare bring another woman into this house? Are you trying to hurt Scarlett... or yourself?"
Damian parted his lips but didn't know how to explain. He could only sigh, "Mom, it's not like that."
But Ruth noticed the obvious bulge beside him—clearly hiding a person.
Refusing to believe him, she stepped forward and yanked the blanket off them both.
The moment the blanket fell, their state was laid bare.
Scarlett's face was buried in Damian's chest; she didn't dare look up at Ruth.
Ruth had never expected it to be Scarlett under the blanket, but the shape was unmistakable. Embarrassment flooded her face as she pulled the blanket away.
She mouthed silently to Damian, "Scarlett?"
Damian nodded.
Ruth spread her hands, looking apologetic. "I didn't mean to. Carry on—pretend I wasn't here."
With that, she turned, eager to flee the awkward scene.
But just as she did, Damian stopped her. "Mom, could you please cover us back up?"
At the moment, both of them were barely clothed.
Only by holding each other could they modestly cover themselves.
Reluctantly, Ruth turned back, half-closing her eyes as she draped the blanket over them again.
"All right," she said with a nervous laugh. "Continue. Call me when you're done, and I'll come back in."
