Once She Came Like a Flash novel Chapter 88

**Faith Didn’t Survive Time – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 88**

“Ugh…”

Adam’s grip around Kayla’s throat was unyielding, constricting her airway to the point where she struggled to draw in even the slightest breath. Her eyes widened in panic, and her face flushed a deep crimson as she clawed desperately at his hands, trying to pry them away.

“A-Adam… I-I… didn’t mean to…” she gasped, her words barely escaping her lips, muffled and distorted by the pressure of his grip.

The fury radiating from Adam was palpable, a storm brewing within him as he glared at Kayla, his eyes devoid of recognition. She was no longer the person he once cherished; in that moment, she was simply the embodiment of his rage.

“You’re vile,” he hissed, his voice laced with contempt. “Absolutely disgusting.”

Renee stood silently, a mere spectator to the chaos unfolding before her. She felt a knot of despair tighten in her chest as she watched the two of them tear into one another. Deep down, she understood that Adam would never truly stoop so low as to command Kayla to do something so heinous. But in the heat of the moment, the truth seemed irrelevant, drowned out by the cacophony of emotions.

“Adam, let go of Kayla!” Julian’s voice boomed with authority, anger lacing his words. He had not anticipated Kayla’s involvement in the attack on Renee. His heart raced, fueled by a protective instinct; he couldn’t simply stand by and watch his sister endure harm.

Before he could intervene, a police officer rushed in, firmly grasping Adam’s arm and pulling him back. “Mr. Graham, calm down. Let go of her.”

Reluctantly, Adam released Kayla, but his fury was far from extinguished. He shrugged off the officer’s hand as if it were a mere annoyance, and in a sudden, violent outburst, he struck Kayla across the face.

“You’re vicious, manipulative, and not even clever enough to escape the consequences!” he roared, his face a mask of rage, veins bulging on his forehead as his complexion turned a furious shade of red.

The slap landed with a resounding crack, sending Kayla staggering backward. She nearly lost her balance, but Julian was there, catching her just in time, his grip steadying her.

Holding her swollen cheek, tears streamed down Kayla’s face, glistening in the harsh light. “Now I’m the villain? You didn’t seem to think that when we were in bed! You couldn’t stop calling me ‘baby’ then. You’re nothing but a heartless liar, Adam!”

The events had unfolded at a dizzying pace, and with the drug already coursing through her veins, she had no time to seek medical help. She was barely holding herself together, the weight of her situation pressing down on her like a heavy shroud. The only thing anchoring her to reality was the cold steel of the dagger nestled in her palm.

Sunlight danced off the damp patches on her black pants, but it was not perspiration that stained the fabric—it was blood.

Jasper maintained an outward appearance of composure, but inside, he was a tempest of confusion. How could a woman who appeared so delicate wield such fierce control over herself?

The reporters at the scene were forcibly ushered away by the Spencer family’s bodyguards, leaving only a handful of powerful and untouchable aristocrats in their wake.

Renee had witnessed enough of the brutal confrontation between Adam and Kayla. Pushed to her limits, she managed to utter weakly, “Officer, two weeks ago, I was trapped underwater on Seraph Island and nearly drowned. I have some evidence here…”

She extended a USB drive toward the officer, but just as he reached out to take it, a sudden rush of blood cascaded from her nose. The crimson liquid poured forth, and her vision blurred, darkness encroaching as she fainted, collapsing into the chaos surrounding her.
