Chapter 434: Fleeing The Town

"Why are your faces like that?" Saint lifted one of his gray eyebrows. "Both of you are still young. When I was your age, I blazed through the early years of the Age of Kings." He sighed.

"There was no such thing as the Age of Kings back then. We all thought it was the pinnacle, but one man refused to believe it. He believed we were chained, that we were spoon-fed. It sounded mad back then, but look at me now... staring at two young ones who are demigods. Over twenty points higher than the once-glorious King Tier."

Saint chuckled weakly, his voice filled with melancholy. "Did you see how quickly the prestige around that tier fell?"

At this point, Saint was talking to himself. It was obvious he didn’t even care if these two young people listened or not.

"I once stood at that tier, enjoying its glory. We were addressed as kings and queens. But all of a sudden, it was nothing. The barrier broke, my summons began to whisper to me and show me things. I saw how vast this world was and how small and inconsequential we were."

Saint looked at the rafters, his eyes touched with nostalgia. "The King Tier, we gave it that prestige. All it was, was what we gave it. In the end, it was just another tier, but we were ignorant of the history of mana and so considered it the peak. Now that I think about it, our pride looks foolish."

He sighed slowly. "When Orgin came, the same thing happened. Then I saw... I saw that we humans cannot live without dreaming of the next big thing, the next achievement, the next, the next. It’s always what’s next. That’s why the world keeps feeding us more at every end point."

His gaze finally returned to them. "Funny how our power system is no different from our mundane life. It’s like a promotion at work. It’s always so glamorous, it’s always the goal until we get there, and like smoke, all that bliss is gone. Then, we’re once again chasing after a higher position because the one you’re in now can’t satisfy your current needs."

Saint’s solemn voice echoed. "That’s what happens to us. No matter your strength, there’s always something more. So it makes you climb without end. It’s like the old society people complained about, but worse. And just like back then, even when you realize what’s going on, you can’t stop. There is no peace at the end. Just a door to more problems at that level."

"What we lack is contentment." Percival replied.

Saint blinked. "You’re one strange boy. How do you find so much peace in yourself? I have found peace, but I don’t expect the same from one as young as you. Boys your age flaunt around with women. I wasn’t as good-looking as you, and I got a ton of them."

"I don’t know..." Percival smiled softly. "... That’s just how I am. I prefer a low life, a peaceful, normal one, but somehow I don’t always get it."

"I agree. I’m already a recluse, yet a Gen Eight ancient demon goddess is after my life. Both of you will make an interesting pair."

Lucy and Percival eyed each other with the corners of their eyes.

"Once I give Mia to her, she’ll be quite powerful, but I’m sure you won’t fall behind. Right now, you’re not even human but the physical form of all water bodies from another world. That’s an odd thing. This world is still full of unique sights even after a century." Saint laughed weakly.

"Mia. Take care of your new master. She needs your help more than me. I just need one thing from you, an imprint of Burning Confidence. I need one more for my final battle on Earth."

The leopard purred and licked his head, causing Saint to laugh.

After lingering around him for a while, it slowly approached Lucy.

Lucy just stared at the huge leopard, unable to speak. She didn’t even know what to do.

"Just be willing." Saint said.

Lucy exhaled heavily.

’Don’t!’ Hera’s voice pierced her ears, but Lucy didn’t react. Mia went into her, and a bright light graced her dark soul space.
