"Chloe, I’ve barely slept in a day and a night," Walker’s voice was thick with exhaustion.
"Too bad you didn’t just drop dead."
Chloe Reed was pinned by his iron arms, unable to break free. She only exhausted herself to the point of panting as she cursed at him viciously.
Walker didn’t care in the slightest. He just held her close. As long as she was in his arms, he felt a sense of peace.
His breath washed over her ear. Chloe Reed turned her head aside and stopped struggling, conserving her strength.
He was clearly exhausted, and his breathing soon evened out.
The arm pinning her down loosened considerably. Chloe Reed pressed her lips together, a complicated expression flickering in her eyes.
She slid his arm off her, left the bedroom, and even pulled the door shut behind her.
Once she was out, she dialed Selene Adler’s number.
"Mrs. Grant." Selene Adler answered, her voice laced with confusion. "It’s so late. Is something the matter?"
Chloe Reed’s tone was flat. "I’m sending you an address. Come and take care of Walker Grant."
With that, she hung up.
’She’d given her the opportunity. Whether Selene Adler could seize it was up to her.’
「An hour later.」
Selene Adler stepped out of the elevator. Seeing the apartment door slightly ajar, her palms began to sweat with nervousness.
She pushed the door open and stepped inside. The apartment was empty, and only the bedroom door was shut tight.
She walked to the bedroom door and quietly pushed it open. Inside, Walker Grant was lying on his side, fast asleep.
A flicker of excitement flashed in Selene Adler’s eyes, but she didn’t approach him right away.
’Now isn’t the time.
I have to take this slow.’
...
Surrounded by the lingering scent of Chloe Reed, Walker Grant slept more soundly than he had in a long time.
He didn’t stir until the next morning.
He opened his eyes, but there was no sign of Chloe Reed in the bedroom.
