Chloe Reed went straight to Iris Yates’s place last night.
Iris Yates opened the door, a game already in progress on her phone. She spared Chloe a quick glance before her eyes darted back to the screen. "What are you doing here so late?" she asked.
Chloe Reed stepped inside. "I missed you, so I came over."
Without looking up from her phone, Iris Yates puckered her lips for an air kiss. "Chloe, love ya, love ya."
Chloe Reed: "..."
’Could she be any more half-hearted?’
Iris Yates lived alone. A huge gamer, her room was filled with video game merchandise.
A massive collectible figure stood in the corner. The craftsmanship was exquisite, making it a perfect replica of a video game character.
Chloe Reed grabbed a bottle of water and sat on the sofa, waiting for Iris to finish her game.
Muttering a stream of curses, Iris Yates finished her match, plopped down next to Chloe, and asked, "Okay, what really happened?"
Chloe Reed explained, "Walker Grant insisted on staying at my place. I didn’t want to see him, so I left."
"Tsk..." Disgust was written all over Iris Yates’s face. "Aren’t there enough other women to warm his bed? Why does he insist on pestering you?"
A small smile played on Chloe Reed’s lips. "Why don’t you go and ask him?"
"No way. If I saw him, I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from slapping him," Iris Yates said, waving her hand dismissively. "But then, I can’t win a fight against him, so I’d just be asking for trouble. Why bother?"
Chloe Reed fell silent.
"Oh, by the way, if you hadn’t come to me, I was going to look for you tomorrow," Iris Yates said, her expression turning serious. "Remember we were going to investigate the earthquake? The guy I sent to check things out came back. He said no one saw you rescue anyone."
Upon hearing this, the color drained from Chloe Reed’s face. "How is that possible?!"
