"So this is where you live? It’s very nice."
Her grandmother entered the room, looked around, and made a comment.
Back in a space that was all her own, Chloe Reed relaxed considerably. She smiled, poured her grandmother a glass of warm water, and said, "Yes, I just moved in recently. I really like the scenic lake outside."
The apartment complex featured lake-view units. From her balcony, you could take in the entire vista.
The old woman took a sip of water and then asked, "Chloe, do you want to tell me what’s been going on lately?"
Chloe’s gaze faltered. She didn’t really want to talk about it.
’It was too pathetic.’
’It even felt a little humiliating.’
So she said, "Oh, Grandma, it’s getting really late. Let’s go to bed, shall we? Staying up late isn’t good for you."
She hugged her grandmother’s arm, acting cute.
The old woman couldn’t resist her when she acted like this, so she had no choice but to drop the subject.
The two of them, grandmother and granddaughter, slept together. Chloe nestled dependently in her grandmother’s arms and quickly fell asleep.
「The next day.」
When she woke up, her grandmother wasn’t there.
She hurried out and saw the old woman busy in the kitchen.
"Grandma, why are you cooking? It’s so much work. Let’s just go out to eat," Chloe said, walking over to her.
But the old woman shook her head. "We’re not going out. How long has it been since you’ve had my cooking? Don’t you miss it?"
"Of course I do, but I’d rather you not get tired, Grandma," Chloe said with a wide smile.
But the old woman said, "I knew you did. That’s why I just made a couple of simple things, both of them your favorites."
She would have liked to make something more complex, but unfortunately, Chloe’s pantry was limited.
Chloe went to wash up, and by the time she was finished, breakfast was ready.
It was a simple meal of egg crepes and tomato egg-drop soup. Chloe took one bite and couldn’t help but sigh in contentment.
