When Walker Grant arrived at the restaurant, he found Chloe Reed sitting alone at a table, eating.
His dark, tense expression instantly relaxed. He walked over to her and asked, "Weren’t you supposed to be meeting someone?"
Chloe Reed glanced at him. "How did you know?"
Walker Grant pulled out the chair beside her and sat down. "This Owen Sterling is a problem," he said. "I had someone run a background check on him. He’s been getting close to people from the Grant Family Estate recently."
Chloe Reed calmly sipped her soup. Once she’d had her fill, she set down her chopsticks, her clear eyes looking at him with profound tranquility.
"Your grandmother had Nanny Lawrence work with Owen Sterling to drug me and ruin my reputation," she said, her voice perfectly level. "Walker Grant, what are you going to do about it?"
At her words, Walker Grant’s expression instantly darkened. He looked her over anxiously and asked, "How are you feeling right now?"
"I didn’t fall for it," Chloe Reed said, her tone perfectly even.
A sinister glint appeared in Walker Grant’s sharp eyes, and his voice grew cold. "I will make this right."
But Chloe Reed said, "I have a pretty good idea of what your grandmother is trying to do. She wants us to divorce. Walker Grant, if we don’t, she’ll just keep finding ways to come after me. Can you be by my side to protect me every single moment of every day?"
She finished with a slight smile. "Protecting two women at once... it must be exhausting, don’t you think?"
Walker Grant’s expression soured. "Chloe, I won’t let her hurt you again."
"The human heart can be a terrifying thing," Chloe Reed said softly. "If you really want what’s best for me, then divorce me. If we separate, the Grant family will stop targeting me."
Walker Grant’s lips pressed into a thin, hard line. He reached out and grasped her hand, his voice strained. "Chloe..."
"BANG..."
Just then, a loud crash came from the private room.
Walker Grant turned to look, his sharp brows knitted together. He stood, walked over, and opened the door. The sight inside made him immediately avert his eyes in disgust.
Owen Sterling and Nanny Lawrence were tangled together in a heap.
