Chloe Reed’s fingers tightened. Her voice was hoarse as she asked, "Were you able to find out who requested her?"

"That’s another reason I’m so mad! My friend said it was someone named Grant—your scumbag husband!" Iris Yates said, fuming. "Isn’t she always trying to get that jerk’s attention? But just as she finished speaking, her phone rang. She picked it up. "Hello? Mom, what’s wrong?"

It was unclear what was said on the other end, but her expression changed. "Okay, I’m coming home now."

She turned to Chloe Reed, her face full of apology. "I can’t go with you. Something’s come up at home. I have to go back."

Chloe Reed nodded. "Okay. We’ll stay in touch."
