Chapter 37: Chapter 37: A Pair of Scumbags

Chloe Reed’s eyes grew even redder. "Let go of me!"

Walker Grant had already sat up, his sharp, dark eyes fixed on her. "Stop this madness, and I’ll let go."

"Heh..."

Chloe Reed laughed, but her eyes only grew redder. She wrenched her hand free. "Walker Grant, I was so fucking blind. How could I have ever fallen in love with you?"

Walker Grant’s expression darkened. She had barged in, spouting nonsense and trying to start a fight. Now, she was acting as if she regretted ever loving him. It all made him deeply uncomfortable.

"If you have a problem, take it out on me. Don’t resort to hitting people," he said, his voice low.

Chloe Reed raised her hand and slapped him across the face.

"Walker!"

Sunny Reed cried out in alarm. She rushed forward and stared at Chloe Reed in disbelief. "Chloe, why did you hit him? What did he do wrong?"

"A pair of bastards."

Chloe Reed spat, taking a step back. "Walker Grant, I’m filing for divorce. The very idea of being married to someone like you makes me sick to my stomach!"

She wiped at her eyes, then turned and walked away.

"Chloe Reed!"

Walker Grant tried to get out of bed to grab her, but he was still too weak. He staggered, nearly collapsing.

Sunny Reed quickly steadied him. "Walker, don’t go after her. Your health is more important. I’ll go explain things to her. She must have misunderstood something."

A wave of dizziness washed over Walker, and he sat on the edge of the hospital bed to steady himself. "Sunny, don’t go."

But Sunny Reed was frantic. "But she’s going to file for divorce! How can that be okay?"

A vein throbbed in Walker’s temple. He squeezed his eyes shut, his voice deepening. "No one will dare to take her case. To take it would be to declare themselves an enemy of Walker Grant."

Upon hearing this, a dark glint flashed in Sunny Reed’s eyes, though it vanished in an instant.
