As if sensing she was about to refuse, he said flatly, "If you refuse again, I’ll drag you there myself. But my injuries haven’t healed yet, and they’ll definitely reopen. Then you’ll have to stay and take care of me even longer. Is that what you want?"
Chloe Reed fell silent. After giving him a conflicted look, she followed the nurse to get her checkup.
Walker Grant sent a message to Daniel Hayes, telling him to come in.
Daniel Hayes didn’t come all the way in. Instead, he stood at the doorway of the hospital room and asked impatiently, "What do you want?"
Walker Grant stared at him coldly. "Did you keep her safe?"
A wave of pressure washed over Daniel Hayes, making his shoulders tense. He knew he was in the wrong. Rubbing his nose, he walked into the room.
"There was an unexpected incident today."
He explained the whole sequence of events to Walker Grant.
Then, his brow furrowed in confusion. "I’ve met Preston Vance a few times. He doesn’t seem like that kind of person."
Walker Grant’s handsome face was impassive. "You can’t judge a book by its cover."
Daniel Hayes glanced at him and nodded. "You’re right."
Walker Grant shot him a cold glance and said, "Get out."
Daniel Hayes scoffed, then turned and left the room.
Walker Grant gazed out the window, mulling over the situation. ’Preston Vance really doesn’t seem like the type to pull something like this.’
’After all, it was too stupid.’
’And this incident is clearly unrelated to the previous ones. The attacker wasn’t a foreign mercenary, nor were their methods clean and efficient.’
’So, who framed Preston Vance?’
...
Chloe Reed soon returned from her checkup. The results came back normal, showing nothing was wrong with her.
