His expression was exceptionally earnest, as if he would keep agonizing over this and explaining himself until she believed him.
Chloe Reed lowered her gaze, her voice faint. "But it’s true that you were good to her, and it’s also true that you neglected me for her."
The air grew still once again.
Walker Grant’s thin lips parted. Finally, he said, "I’m sorry."
He was apologizing for those past moments when he had hurt her.
Especially after learning about Sunny Reed’s parents, he knew just how terribly wrong he had been.
Therefore, she had every right to feel wronged and upset, and to blame him.
Chloe Reed turned her face away, her tone faint. "How did you find out about what happened today?"
’Don’t tell me he still has people watching me, right under Daniel Hayes’s nose?’
Walker Grant lowered his gaze slightly. "I have my ways. If I told you, what’s to stop you from being on guard next time?"
Chloe Reed was left speechless.
She simply took out her phone and started using it, no longer looking at him.
Walker Grant, however, looked up at her and continued, "Preston Vance’s background isn’t simple. You’d be better off not getting too close to him in the future."
Chloe Reed didn’t say a word.
But from his perspective, she was ignoring him.
His tone turned cold. "Chloe Reed, are you even listening to me?"
Chloe Reed continued to ignore him.
Furious, Walker Grant threw back the covers to get out of bed. But the movement was too abrupt, and the wound tore open. He immediately sucked in a sharp breath.
"Ugh..."
A low, muffled groan escaped him.
Chloe Reed’s eyelashes fluttered. She glanced toward the hospital bed to see him frozen mid-motion, halfway out of bed. His movements were stiff, his dashing brows were furrowed, and a look of pain washed over his face.
