Hearing him say this, Iris Yates’s heart gave a sudden lurch. She wondered what he meant. Was he really jealous of a little cat? Had he completely lost his mind?
William Quinn’s face was devoid of expression, but his words sent chills down her spine. "I think I’ll just get rid of you. That way, my baby will only be able to touch me. No, better yet, I should just kill you. Then my baby won’t be constantly thinking about you."
"No!" Iris’s eyes went wide. She immediately cried out to stop him, looking at him with pleading eyes. "Don’t hurt it!"
The little cat was so innocent. If it died because of her, the guilt would eat her alive!
William turned his head to look at her. A pitiful, aggrieved look resurfaced in his blue eyes. "See? How long have you even known it? It hasn’t even been an hour, and you’re already treating it so well. I love you so much, and we’ve been together for so long, yet you still refuse to smile at me of your own accord. Baby, tell me, how could I not be jealous of it?"
Listening to his utter nonsense and twisted logic, Iris took a deep breath before asking, "What do you want me to do?"
William rested his head against her chest again. "Pet me. Just like you were petting it."
Iris immediately reached out and stroked his hair, her movements steady and gentle. A look of deep satisfaction bloomed on William’s face. She was finally willing to pet him.
After a while, he grew dissatisfied with just simple strokes and made another demand. "Kiss me."
Suppressing her reluctance, Iris leaned in and gave him a perfunctory peck. Even so, William was thrilled. Because of that, even Mimi looked a bit more pleasing to his eyes.
