Walker Grant’s dark, intense eyes were fixed on her. He casually took her bag, then grasped her hand and started leading her outside.
Chloe Reed’s expression was icy. She tried to pull her hand away, but he only gripped it tighter.
He led her out of the company building and into his car.
"When are you moving back to Jardinelle?"
Walker Grant asked as he started the car.
Chloe Reed turned her head to look out the window, her tone indifferent. "I’m fine where I am. I don’t need to move."
"Fine," Walker Grant nodded. "Then I’ll move in with you."
Chloe Reed whipped her head around to glare at him. "Absolutely not!"
Walker Grant glanced at her. "Why not? We’re married. Living apart isn’t good for our relationship."
Chloe Reed found it laughable.
Yesterday, she’d hailed him and he’d ignored her. Today, he was talking about working on their marriage.
The mockery in her eyes was too blatant. Walker Grant didn’t like it, so he looked straight ahead, his deep, magnetic voice growing colder. "Chloe, we’re not getting a divorce, so we have to try and go back to the way things were."
"We can’t," Chloe Reed said, her voice rigid.
Walker Grant’s brow furrowed, and another wave of irritation washed over him.
’What does she mean, we can’t go back?’
’Then why did she agree not to get a divorce?’
’Doesn’t that mean she wants to stay married to me?’
His grip on the steering wheel tightened, the veins standing out on the back of his hand. The atmosphere in the car turned frigid.
Chloe Reed said, "Stop the car. I want to get out."
Walker Grant slammed on the brakes, pulling the car over to the side of the road. But he didn’t unlock the doors, instead turning to face her. "Do you have to fight me on this to the bitter end?"
Chloe Reed looked at him coldly. "You say you want to make things work, but what have you done that suggests that? You pick Sunny Reed up from work. Yesterday, I was standing in the rain, trying to flag you down, and you just ignored me. And now today, you’re telling me you want to make things work."
