Chapter 11 Good Luck Surviving That
The vial shattered.
At the same instant, the sparrowhawk beat its wings and stirred up a violent gust. The unknown liquid inside the vial rode the wind straight toward Julian and splashed all over him.
“Good luck.”
Silas smiled, then guided the sparrowhawk back to the side of the bright red mecha. His movements were so smooth that this clearly was not his first time doing something like this.
“Fuck! What is that?”
Noah was shocked and furious.
Julian, however, frowned hard.
For one dizzy instant, he smelled a rich floral fragrance.
“If I’m guessing correctly, that should be high-concentration Omega pheromones…”
The Beta captain took a deep breath. Even his hands were trembling slightly on the mecha controls.
Part of it was fear.
But most of it was rage he could not put into words.
Plenty of people knew Merrick Holt was unpopular with Betas. Betas would rather join weak Beta-led squads than choose Merrick.
The reason was simple.
Merrick did not see Betas as people.
In his eyes, Alphas and Omegas stood above everyone else, while Betas deserved to be beneath them.
Then again, what good was being an Alpha?
Had Cole not just been abandoned too?
“What do we do…? It looks like it really is coming toward us…”
Another first-year’s eyes widened. Tears slipped down his cheeks without warning.
“Are we… are we going to die?”
“Julian, what are you doing?”
Noah’s voice cut through the fear.
He reached out to grab Julian’s hand, only to see Julian standing at the edge of the broken cockpit. The young man leaned backward and fell straight down from the mecha without hesitation.

“You go first. If we’re going to die, I’d rather take my own shot than die packed together like cowards
“Are you insane?”
Noah was so anxious he nearly cried.
But he could no longer reach Julian, and he had no right to convince the others on the squad to stop.
All he could do was watch as the Golden Tarric Scorpion moved closer and closer to Julian.
In front of such a monstrous creature, Julian’s slender figure looked so small he seemed as if he could vanish at any second.
At that moment, Noah was not the only one watching Julian.
Everyone on the damaged mecha was watching.
So were Merrick, Talia, and Silas, the three people who had caused all this.
A mere Beta in a flesh-and-blood body.
No spirit form.
No mecha.
He would probably become the Golden Tarric Scorpion’s next meal.
But then something happened that none of them expected.
Facing the scorpion’s huge raised claw, Julian twisted sharply in midair, pulled out his laser pistol, and fired three shots in rapid succession.
Using the recoil, he successfully dodged.
“My God… is he really a Beta?”
The female Beta deputy captain stared in disbelief.
But what came next was even more shocking.
After dodging the scorpion’s attack, Julian did not land on the ground.
Instead, he went against everyone’s expectations and landed directly on the scorpion’s body.
Golden Tarric Scorpion: “?”
As a massive creature, it looked at Julian the way a human might look at a tiny finch.
If the little bird was in the air or on the ground, fine.
But what was it supposed to do when the bird landed on its back?
The scorpion tried to grab Julian with its claws, but its claws were too short to reach.

Its tail stinger was long enough, but after several furious swings, Julian dodged every strike by rolling or leaping aside.
Twice, the stinger even scraped the scorpion’s own body, making it screech in pain.
The whole scorpion was visibly getting angry.
Merrick, Talia, and Silas were just beginning to feel pleased that Julian had stalled the Golden/Tarric Scorpion long enough for them to wait for rescue.
Then the scorpion suddenly lifted its head.
Its huge, bell-like vertical pupils locked straight onto the bright red mecha.
A fierce gust nearly blew Julian off the scorpion’s body.
In the next second, he watched the Golden Tarric Scorpion rush toward the bright red mecha at terrifying speed.
“Damn it! Why can’t you useless trash lure it away?”
Talia screamed in terror through the squad channel.
Julian merely gave a cold laugh.
Then, calm as ever, he released his grip on the scorpion’s carapace and let the wind throw him away.
“Silas!”
