Chapter 22 The Perfect Scapegoat

“Well.. just don’t blame me, okay? I thought you were dead, so I rushed over and yelled at your second brother, yelled at Elias, and accidentally pissed off Caelan Rookwood too…”

Noah knew exactly how Julian used to feel about Tristan and Caelan.

If he had not believed Julian was dead; he would never have-

Then he heard Julian say, “If you cursed them out, then you cursed them out. From now on, train properly. Next time, try to beat up all three of them.”

Noah: “?”

First of all, hitting Elias, an Omega, was illegal.

Second, Tristan was an S-rank Alpha.

Third, Caelan Rookwood was an extremely rare SS-rank.

What was a Beta supposed to use to beat them? His head?

While Julian and Noah chatted, they also heard a bit of gossip from the S-rank camp.

Apparently, after hearing Julian had come back from the dead, Elias had made a fuss about wanting to see him, only to be stopped by Tristan and two other first-year teammates.

They said that even if Elias went, Julian would never appreciate his kindness.

An ungrateful little bastard was not worth the effort.

Julian did not even spare that nonsense a glance.

He only tightened his grip around the top-grade military pheromone blockers and high-grade crystals in his bag, quietly planning around his Omega identity.

Originally, the three instructors and all the students assumed they would remain on Zerath for several more days until the Seventh Legion properly handled the aftermath.

But that night, everything changed.

News suddenly spread across StarNet.

The Seventh Legion had neglected its duty and failed to fully sweep Zerath, allowing five S-rank insectoids and multiple A-rank insectoids to appear during a military academy assessment. The result was devastating student casualties.

Countless citizens demanded an explanation from the Seventh Legion and questioned why the Imperial Military Academy had not released the news immediately.

On Julian’s side, all students were woken up overnight and ordered to break camp. They boarded the “Northstar” again and rushed back to the academy as quickly as possible.

22 The Perfect Scapegoat

By the time they landed at the familiar academy spaceport, the discussion online had already reached a boiling point.

The hottest trending tag was titled. “Useless Beta Drags Down Entire Squad, Causing High-Level Omega’s Tragic Death.”

“Cadet Shaw, please come with us.”

Julian: “…”

Thanks for asking. Currently at school. Just got off the starship. Already being mysteriously arrested.

While Julian was taken away by the incident investigation team, the online discussion grew even more

intense.

[Five S-rank Golden Tarric Scorpions and multiple A-rank Tarric Scorpions? How exactly did the Seventh Legion sweep Zerath? More than five hundred Imperial Military Academy students were involved. Those kids are the future elites of our military!]

[Exactly. A high-level Omega died too. This has to be investigated properly!]

[Omegas already attract insectoids. If a squad like that had to include a Beta, then it should’ve been a Beta with top-tier overall ability.]

At first, the discussion was still relatively normal.

But once the first anti-Beta trending tag took off, all kinds of trolls and bad actors crawled out.

[You guys have no idea. The Beta in that Omega squad is famously useless. Class F, always making a scene, and he basically has no friends at the academy.]

[Right? With physical stats like his, the three Alphas probably had to protect him on top of protecting the Omega.]

[Insider here. That Beta abandoned his teammates on the spot and ran off with several Betas from another squad.]

[Wait, seriously?]

[That squad didn’t just lose the Omega. The Omega’s Alpha brother died protecting her, the deputy captain is badly injured and unconscious, and the captain is barely holding on. I heard the Omega and the captain were dating.]

[That’s awful.]

[The whole squad is either dead or injured, and he’s the only Beta walking around perfectly fine. Draw your own conclusions.]

Inside a garden mansion on the capital world, a middle-aged Alpha in military uniform watched public opinion on StarNet spiral further and further out of control. His brows remained tightly furrowed.

“Lieutenant General, as long as we amplify the story that a Beta dragged down the entire squad, public
